<h2>Tamalpais Community Services District - SB 1383 Organics and Recycling Compliance Fellow</h2>
<p>*Please note: We will be hiring one (1) 12-month Fellow for this role</p>
<p>If you are passionate about helping local governments reduce the waste they send to landfill and assisting with community outreach about waste laws and ordinances, then this may be an opportunity for you!</p>
<h2>About Tamalpais Community Services District</h2>
<p>The Tamalpais Community Services District (TCSD) is a special district (i.e., governmental agency) in unincorporated Marin County that provides solid waste residential and commercial collection services in Tamalpais Valley. As part of a regional approach to implementing the requirements of the Short-Lived Climate Pollutants Act (SB1383), TCSD has coordinated a regional SB1383 Local Assistance Grant (Grant) from CalRecycle with six other unincorporated Marin Special Districts including: Alto Sanitary District, Almonte Sanitary District, Bolinas Public Utilities District, Homestead Valley Sanitary District, Las Gallinas Valley Sanitary District, and Strawberry Recreation District (Special Districts). TCSD has retained R3 Consulting to perform an initial analysis of the level of SB 1383 implementation that each participating Special District has undertaken. Once this work has been completed, R3 will recommend to each Special District the program improvements needed to meet the requirements of the regulations and implement systems to improve organics diversion and enhance organics collection. These programs will align with County-wide goals to act on climate change and promote healthy, safe, and sustainable communities.</p>
<h2>Position Overview and Description</h2>
<p>The principles of waste reduction and diversion of organics and recyclable materials from landfills are closely related to fighting climate change and advancing climate resiliency. Reducing fossil-fuel-based plastics, encouraging mindfulness surrounding consumption, reducing natural resource depletion through recycling, and avoiding landfill methane emissions while improving soil health through composting are just some examples of this intersection. TCSD and the other special districts are excited to host a 12-month Climate Corps Fellow to work on fighting climate change through the diversion of organics and recyclables away from landfills.&nbsp;</p>
<p>This Fellow position will assist with outreach and compliance with waste laws and ordinances. The work will entail coordinating with the participating Special Districts to complete community outreach and messaging related to reducing landfill waste, correct recycling, and composting, and complying with SB 1383. Examples of possible projects could include but are not limited to: supporting the Special Districts in evaluating their compliance with SB1383, conducting contamination monitoring of bins, developing programs to help facilitate more recycling and organics diversion, creating and conducting outreach campaigns related to proper waste sorting, and developing communications about reducing overall waste by switching to reusables, completing on-site training with Special District staff, residents and businesses to help them comply with waste laws and ordinances, inspecting sites for compliance with waste laws and ordinances, and possible coordination with regional Zero Waste Marin programs. Community outreach could include occasional weekend work, such as tabling at events.&nbsp;</p>
<p>The position will be supervised by TCSD staff with R3 Consulting assigning the tasks to be undertaken by the Fellow. The position will be housed in the TCSD main office, but we anticipate the ability to work remotely for 2 days per week depending on the tasks at hand. The position will require driving to the other participating Special Districts for meetings, training,&nbsp;and/or program implementation.&nbsp;</p>
<h2>Responsibilities (including but not limited to)</h2>
<ul>
<li>Work with Tamalpais Community Services District as well as other participating Special District staff to identify and implement outreach opportunities for educating communities on proper waste sorting and waste reduction.&nbsp;</li>
<li>Develop organics and recycling collection, recordkeeping, and reporting systems in coordination with the participating special districts</li>
<li>Conduct waste reduction training, presentations, and inspections for SB 1383 compliance at various sites in the Special District service areas.</li>
<li>In coordination with Special District staff, assist districts with documenting the required Implementation Record of compliance activities for SB 1383 (Short-Lived Climate Pollutants Act)</li>
<li>Work with TCSD staff and consultants to analyze program metrics in connection with the SB 1383 requirements.&nbsp;</li>
<li>Facilitate communication between the regional Zero Waste Marin SB1383 compliance programs with those of the participating Special Districts</li>
</ul>
<h2>Desired Qualifications</h2>

<li>Knowledge of waste reduction principles, including but not limited to recycling, composting, source reduction of waste, reuse, repair, etc.&nbsp;</li>
<li>Experience with outreach and communications</li>

Organics and Recycling Compliance Fellow

<h2>Position Overview</h2>
<p>The Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD), the largest community college district in California with nearly 205,000 students across nine campuses, adopted a Clean Energy and Sustainability Resolution on July 8, 2020. This resolution aims to achieve 100% renewable, carbon-free electricity by 2030 and carbon-free energy for all uses by 2040. It also addresses zero waste, carbon emission tracking, and stormwater retention. By fall 2024, LACCD will start developing its District-wide Roadmap to Sustainability and Climate Action with a planning firm&rsquo;s help.</p>
<p>To support these goals, LACCD seeks a Climate Corps fellow to assist with utility tracking, develop the District&rsquo;s SIMAP Greenhouse Gas Inventory, and begin planning for the STARS assessment tool by AASHE. The fellow will collaborate with District stakeholders and the planning firm to tackle sustainability challenges and educate stakeholders on sustainability strategies, under the guidance of the Sustainability &amp; Utility Program Manager.</p>

<h2>Position Overview &amp; Description</h2>
<p>The Energy Efficiency Fellow at CSUCI will provide the campus support in three main areas:</p>
<p><strong>Green Revolving Fund Promotion and Management:</strong> CSUCI recently started an internal Green Revolving Fund (GRF) to invest in utility efficiency and decarbonization projects that demonstrate a five-year simple payback. The GRF provides an opportunity for any campus students or employees to propose water and energy efficiency projects that will benefit the campus. This position will lead the promotion and management of the GRF, producing and disseminating promotional materials, exploring other funding opportunities and incentives, identifying eligible projects, and assisting with tracking and management of GRF-funded projects.&nbsp;</p>
<p><strong>Energy Efficiency Projects:</strong> The university is in the process of implementing a suite of energy efficiency projects, including campus lighting retrofits, building controls upgrades, HVAC replacements, and evaluating decarbonization measures, such as onsite generation and storage, the reduction of fossil fuel-powered systems, as well as electrifying the campus&rsquo;s fleet vehicles. This position will develop energy modeling to forecast and track energy efficiency improvements and will provide support to the project managers overseeing these projects to ensure timely implementation of projects and to help collect energy data and estimate resource savings. This role is integral to achieving the university's sustainability targets by ensuring projects are aligned with energy conservation goals.</p>
<p><strong>Energy Efficiency Program Implementation:</strong> In addition to the suite of funded lighting and energy projects mentioned above, the campus is also participating in a utility incentive program to identify energy efficiency measures. This position will support the university&rsquo;s participation in the program and assist with coordinating the implementation of energy efficiency measures. This position may also design and deliver presentations, workshops, signage, and other educational materials to increase awareness and understanding of energy efficiency for campus leadership, employees, and students.</p>

<h2>Position Overview &amp; Description</h2>
<p>The Capitol Corridor Marketing and Communications Fellow will have the opportunity to work on a variety of projects that support the development and assessment of integrated marketing, communications, and customer experiences strategies, to support ridership growth on the Capitol Corridor. The Marketing and Communications Fellow will work alongside Capitol Corridor marketing and communications team members, as well as cross-functional transportation service, planning, mechanical, and administrative management staff. This role offers the chance to explore strategies for enhancing rider experience, increasing ridership, and promoting sustainability. You'll learn about community engagement, using digital media to reach diverse audiences, and creating campaigns that highlight public transportation benefits. Additionally, you'll gain skills in oral and written communication, managing public perceptions, and analyzing ridership trends. Persuading behavior change is critical in this field, as you'll be encouraging people to choose public transit over other modes of transportation. This field is perfect for those interested in innovative marketing solutions and impactful communication strategies. This is a hybrid role with 2 days per week remote and 3 days per week in-person. Some evening and weekend hours may be needed, for event planning, content creation, or other activities, but they would be planned.&nbsp;</p>

Neighborhoods in the Cities of Santa Clara, Sunnyvale, San Jose, and Cupertino comprise the District's 56 square-mile area. Santa Clara Unified prides itself on having teachers, classified employees, and administrators who are dedicated, experienced professionals who care about each student's well-being and academic preparation.</p><h2><strong>Position Overview &amp; Description</strong></h2><p>The SCUSD Environmental Youth Leadership Initiative focuses on fostering climate resiliency by empowering students to lead sustainability efforts in their schools. Through a comprehensive approach, this initiative guides students to develop campus-based sustainability projects aligned with the district's Climate Action Plan. Key efforts include launching and sustaining youth leadership convenings, creating environmental clubs, and hosting events like the Youth Climate Action Summit. The initiative also emphasizes zero waste practices by preparing schools to comply with California's waste laws and implementing systems like tri-bin waste sorting.</p><p>Roles and responsibilities involve mentoring student groups, facilitating collaborations across schools, and training staff mentors to support youth leadership. Daily tasks range from coaching students in project development to creating outreach materials and documenting student achievements. Learning opportunities are abundant, with students gaining hands-on experience in sustainability practices, leadership skills, and community engagement. Staff and mentors also benefit from capacity-building training, equipping them to foster a culture of environmental stewardship within the school community. This position requires some flexibility to accommodate meetings with secondary student groups at various school sites across the district due to various bell schedules. The average work day will begin at 8:30 am and end at 4:30 pm. Some weekend work and late afternoon work will take place when necessary to meet with youth.</p><h2><strong>Responsibilities</strong></h2><ul><li><p>Launch and sustain the SCUSD Environmental Youth Leadership Initiative Convenings.</p></li><li><p>Guide existing environmental student groups to initiate campus-based sustainability projects aligned with the district’s Climate Action Plan.</p></li><li><p>Create environmental clubs at secondary schools that do not have such clubs.</p></li><li><p>Meet with student groups regularly to coach them on project development and leadership.</p></li><li><p>Facilitate collaboration and sharing of best environmental leadership practices between schools and leaders.</p></li><li><p>Identify and train site staff who will help lead and mentor student leadership teams at each school site and provide ongoing support and capacity-building training or resources for these staff mentors.</p></li><li><p>Develop and implement outreach strategies to recruit diverse student leaders.</p></li><li><p>Create promotional materials, including fliers, announcements, and videos, with student input.</p></li><li><p>Document student change-making efforts and initiatives.</p></li><li><p>Develop articles and videos showcasing youth leadership and project successes.</p></li><li><p>Host the in-person Youth Climate Action Summit with student leaders from each site.</p></li><li><p>Host Virtual Community of Practice Workshops for students.</p></li><li><p>Host the Youth Action Showcase.</p></li><li><p>Support Zero Waste Initiative efforts at school sites.</p></li><li><p>Prepare the district to comply with California zero waste laws and implement a tri-bin waste system that includes landfill, recycling, and organic composting at every school site.</p></li><li><p>Improve waste diversion methodologies and systems at school sites including improvements to waste infrastructure.</p></li><li><p>Implement a training program that includes facilitating bi-annual training of students, faculty, and staff (particularly the custodians) on the separation of recyclables and compostables from general waste, especially classroom and office materials.&nbsp;</p></li><li><p>Build momentum and interest in increasing waste diversion in all aspects of school communities, including campus, curriculum, community engagement, and institutional culture.</p></li><li><p>Perform related duties as assigned.</p></li></ul><h2><strong>Desired Qualifications</strong></h2><ul><li><p>College training or experience in sustainability and working with TK-12 students. Experience should cover a wide range of duties with increasing responsibilities.</p></li><li><p>Experience in youth leadership, environmental education, or sustainability initiatives.</p></li><li><p>Strong event planning, communication, and mentoring skills.</p></li><li><p>Ability to create outreach materials and engage diverse audiences.</p></li><li><p>Knowledge of project planning, execution, and evaluation, especially in a collaborative setting with multiple stakeholders.</p></li><li><p>Understanding of how schools operate, including student clubs, teacher leadership roles, and district-level educational initiatives.</p></li><li><p>Strong communication and public speaking skills, with the ability to engage and inspire diverse groups of students.</p></li><li><p>Knowledge of youth engagement strategies and experience in coaching or mentoring young leaders.</p></li><li><p>Knowledge of key environmental issues such as climate change, zero waste, sustainability practices, and renewable energy.</p></li><li><p>Department of Justice fingerprint clearance.&nbsp;</p></li><li><p>Evidence of TB clearance.&nbsp;</p></li><li><p>If you operate a motor vehicle during the course of the job, possess a Valid California Motor Vehicle Operator’s License, have an acceptable driving record, and qualify for insurability by the District’s insurance carrier.</p></li><li><p>If you do not possess a valid California Driver’s License, you must be able to provide your own transportation to other school sites as needed.</p></li></ul><p>We encourage anyone who is interested in this position and who meets some of the qualifications to apply, even if they do not meet all of them. Environmental Youth Leadership Fellow

<h2>Position Overview</h2>
<p>This position will be dedicated to supporting the implementation of Milpitas&rsquo; recently adopted Climate Action Plan Update. Specifically, focused on community engagement and education to accelerate the adoption of carbon-free homes and all-electric home appliances and transformations. This position will develop community engagement campaigns and activities, staff community events, recruit, train, and coordinate community volunteers, and track and report on participation. This position will also work with regional partners and neighboring communities on climate initiatives. This position will also coordinate and track the progress of citywide climate initiatives.&nbsp;</p>
<h2>Responsibilities</h2>
<ul>
<li>Develop outreach and education materials related to the benefits of all-electric home appliances and carbon-free lifestyle choices.&nbsp;</li>
<li>Develop and staff activities at local community events designed to pique interest in and raise awareness of electrification and decarbonization.&nbsp;</li>
<li>Prepare reports and presentations.&nbsp;</li>
<li>Track climate action plan implementation, metrics, and GHG inventories&nbsp;</li>
<li>Participate in regional forums and meetings to coordinate programmatic efforts and collaboration opportunities.&nbsp;</li>
<li>Work with other city staff and departments to promote sustainability, increase awareness of climate issues and programs, and develop creative approaches to community engagement</li>
<li>Recruit, train, and organize community volunteers to support and staff events and activities&nbsp;</li>
</ul>
<h2>Desired Qualifications</h2>
<ul>
<li>Experience and education in renewable energy, energy efficiency, climate change and climate action, environmental policy&nbsp;</li>
<li>Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.&nbsp;</li>
<li>Experience with social media including engaging content creation. Basic to intermediate graphic design skills are a plus.&nbsp;</li>
