The Carbon Leadership Forum accelerates the transformation of the building sector to dramatically reduce the embodied carbon of buildings and infrastructure — i.e., the greenhouse gas emissions from making, transporting, installing, maintaining, and disposing of construction materials. We improve data, inform policy, and engage and empower key leaders to take action.
Cement and steel are responsible for roughly 15% of global energy-related GHG emissions. And buildings and infrastructure are significant end users of these and other industrial materials: the construction sector is responsible for consuming nearly all cement and roughly 52% of steel produced across the world.
CLF helps drive industrial decarbonization by steering demand towards increasingly lower-carbon construction practices across all materials and construction typologies. We promote designing efficiently with low embodied carbon materials while reducing emissions from installing, maintaining, and disposing them across their lifecycle.
