You'll run the pre-install QA check that catches design and site problems, run the post-install QC check that decides whether a job meets our standards, and own all punch list items from start to completion. Just as importantly, you'll own the contractor experience through that process, making sure our standards are clear, issues are resolved quickly, and crews aren't left guessing about what good looks like. You'll be the technical phone-a-friend for both our contractors and our install coordination team, which means when a crew hits something unexpected on site, you're the technical resource that provides the solution.Your job is to help contractors do great work with Zero: fewer surprises, faster answers, clear expectations, and a partner they trust when something goes sideways.

Zero’s Technical Operations team is our technical authority in the field. Technical Operations own installation quality, field technical support, standards, and enablement as a whole. In addition to training and quality, this team focuses on developing better field solutions, using creativity and technical judgment when there isn’t an obvious answer. Just as importantly, they close the loop between design and field execution, turning what we learn on job sites into better products, better standards, and better installs across the network.

Who You Are

You've spent 3-5 years installing and servicing HVAC systems, and you can tell whether an install was done right. You're the person who notices the thing everyone else walked past, and you can raise it with a contractor in a way that gets it fixed without turning into a negotiation. You understand that quality isn't just enforcement, it's creating an environment where good contractors can succeed, improve, and enjoy working with us.

You're comfortable being the escalation point: a crew calls you mid-install with a line set routing problem or an unexpected wiring or controls problem, and you can talk them through it or drive out and solve it yourself.

You like systems, but you'd rather build a process that makes a contractor's job easier and helps them get it right the first time than a document nobody reads. You build credibility with crews because you've done the work yourself, communicate clearly, and treat contractors like partners rather than problems to manage. When a problem needs to be solved today, you handle it with a can-do attitude.

What You Bring

3-5 years of hands-on residential HVAC installation and supervisor / management experience, with the depth to review someone else's work and deliver constructive advice.

Experience running quality checks on residential installs

The ability to give clear technical direction to contractors and coordinators, both on site and over the phone

Comfort reading equipment layouts and specs

Willingness to do the work yourself: local site walks, simple inspection correction in the field, part runs and deliveries, and covering local service calls.

Valid driver's license and clean driving record

Bonus: EPA 608 certification, NATE certification, Master mechanical license

At Zero, Senior Designers are individual contributors that report to a Lead Designer. You will work in small teams (1 Designer and 1-2 Engineers) in six-week cycles to take loosely defined projects and deliver new features. Senior Designers are given broad latitude to make project-level design decisions and are expected to operate effectively with minimal oversight. We are relentlessly focused on sustainable productivity. You should expect long stretches of deep work, minimal standing meetings, and effective in person collaboration with stakeholders and peers. Senior Product Designers will also collaborate extensively with the leadership team, helping to transform early ideas and business opportunities into a cogent product vision and roadmap. And because everyone on the team is a builder, Senior Product Designers also build early prototypes that will bring new products and features to life. Senior Product Designer

Our mission is to rebuild American communities through healthy, affordable homes.

At Zero Homes, we operate on a simple premise: when you make contractors successful, homeowners win. The current home services industry is fragmented, complex, and opaque, which is frustrating for homeowners and exhausting for contractors. We are changing this by building a home upgrade marketplace that enables a simple, central, transparent process for homeowners and contractors to complete projects.

Through our platform we handle design, quoting, procurement, and customer service, allowing our contractor network to focus on what they do best and make them money: delivering projects. For homeowners, this delivers a predictable, high-quality, and transparent experience—transforming home upgrades from a source of anxiety into a seamless experience. Our vision is to create a world where homeowners and contractors in all 50 states can leverage our platform to execute thousands of projects every week within the next 36 months.

We work by a clear set of values:

Be a "can kid," not a "can’t kid": We own our outcomes and go to extraordinary lengths to solve problems.

Go fast, be clear: Speed is our advantage, and we sweat the details to deliver an extraordinary customer experience.

Customer & Contractor Obsessed: We have a deep, personal understanding of the work to be done. We stay curious about our contractors' craft and the stories of our homeowners.

Win, as a team: We are building an iconic business that will reinvent the industry, and will do so together.

If you are ready to build a world-class consumer experience that genuinely rebuilds American communities, come build with us.

About the Role & Your Impact

This is an exciting opportunity to join an early stage company of talented engineers and designers, led by seasoned climate tech veterans. At Zero, Senior Engineers are individual contributors that report to a Lead Engineer. You will work in small teams (1 designer and 1-2 programmers) in six-week cycles, to take loosely defined projects and deliver new features. Senior Engineers are given broad latitude to make project-level design decisions and expected to operate effectively with minimal oversight. We are relentlessly focused on sustainable productivity. You should expect long stretches of deep work, minimal standing meetings, effective in person collaboration with stakeholders and peers, as well as flexibility around your personal life.

Our Senior Mobile Engineer will build the future of our consumer mobile app, which enables homeowners to get a design and quote for their HVAC project without an in person sales visit. The mobile app is our most important digital touchpoint with homeowners, and you will own features end-to-end on both iOS and Android. Today the app is built fully native with SwiftUI and Jetpack Compose, and the groundwork has been laid for rapid iteration and innovation.

What You Bring

You are fluent on both iOS and Android. You may be stronger in one than the other, but you can confidently navigate both platforms, understand the frameworks, and ship production features in Swift and Kotlin. You have at least 5 years of professional software engineering experience, with meaningful time spent building native mobile applications that real users rely on.

You have strong opinions about AI in the mobile development loop. Agentic coding tools - Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, and whatever comes next - are a core part of how you work. You have a point of view on which problems they're great at, where they fall down, and when to keep a human in the loop on review and verification. You treat your AI toolchain the way a craftsperson treats their workshop: opinionated, evolving, and always sharpened.

You are relentlessly customer-centric. When a real user hits a bug, you want to know immediately, and you are happy to drop your in-flight work to unblock them. You see customer-reported bugs as the most important signal you get, not a distraction from your roadmap. Production problems are part of the job, not an interruption to it.

You have a strong bias toward shipping and learning. You know the difference between recklessness and accepted risk, and you are comfortable weighing the severity of one user's problem against the benefit to everyone else. When the call is hard, you make it and move - you don't wait for certainty that may never come.

You care deeply about observability. Before a feature ships, you know how you'll measure it - what events you'll instrument, what dashboard you'll watch, and what the signal looks like for "working" vs "broken." You have experience with a product analytics platform (we use PostHog) and you view a live, populated dashboard as the reward for what you've built, not a follow-up ticket.

You are enthusiastic about in-person work and collaborating with your colleagues in front of a whiteboard. You live within 50 miles of Denver, CO or are willing to relocate.

Nice to Have

Full stack experience - comfortable standing up backend services (push notification servers, lightweight APIs, Cloud Functions) to support mobile features without waiting on another team

Experience collaborating on creating and triaging REST APIs with backend counterparts

Experience at early-stage startups and/or fast-growing environments

Experience with on-device ML and AR (ARKit, ARCore)

Experience with camera frameworks and computer vision

Math background or practical data science experience

Experience in climate tech

Zero Homes is committed to creating an inclusive and accessible experience for all candidates. We encourage you to apply even if you believe that you do not meet all of the above criteria!
