The ACES Trook Apprenticeship is a hands-on learning and training program for those interested in pursuing a career in education or the environment. During the apprenticeship you will support week-long summer camps, be mentored by ACES Education staff, explore field sites, and meet local professionals. You will learn in community about the different aspects of environmental education. ACES summer camp programs serve children entering grades K-8. Paired with an ACES educator, ACES Trook Apprentices assist with supervision of campers, and daily management of camp activities, including hiking, arts and crafts, science investigations and more. ACES is a non-profit environmental science education organization with three locations in the Roaring Fork Valley: Hallam Lake, Rock Bottom Ranch, and the Catto Center at Toklat. Since 1968, ACES has been meeting its mission to create a community of knowledgeable, capable, and motivated environmental stewards through its environmental science programs for adults and children. ACES’ mission is “educating for environmental responsibility.”The Environmental Non-Profit Events and Development Assistant will work five days a week during the end of May through September timeframe (determined by candidates schedule). In this position, a highly motivated individual will be given a comprehensive overview of non-profit systems, such as events, development, and daily operations and gain valuable experience in an environmental nonprofit. Key Responsibilities:<ol><li>Assist in the planning, coordination, and execution of events, including but not limited to gala, fundraisers, and community outreach events.</li><li>Support the development and implementation of event marketing strategies to maximize attendance and engagement.</li><li>Collaborate with the development team to research and identify potential donors, sponsors, and partners for events and fundraising campaigns.</li><li>Assist in donor outreach and stewardship activities, including thank-you letters, acknowledgment emails, and other materials.</li><li>Help maintain accurate donor and event databases, ensuring data integrity and confidentiality.</li><li>Provide on-site support during events, including setup, registration, guest assistance, and breakdown. </li><li>Assist with post-event evaluations and analysis to identify areas for improvement and inform future planning.</li><li>Contribute to other development initiatives and administrative tasks as needed.</li><li>Events take place across our three sites throughout the valley and at other venues.</li></ol>**Some events take place in the evening.Qualifications:<ul><li>Experience in a relevant field such as events, non-profit management, communications, development, marketing, event planning, or similar fields.</li><li>Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines effectively.</li><li>Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.</li><li>Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy in data entry and record-keeping.</li><li>Proficiency in Google suite and familiarity with database management systems (experience with CRM software a plus).</li><li>Enthusiastic team player with a positive attitude and willingness to learn.</li><li>Passion for the mission and values of ACES.</li><li>A go-getter attitude and a willingness to hop in where needed. </li><li>Needs valid driver’s license, as some driving for errands is required (we have staff vehicle)</li></ul>Benefits:<ul><li>Hands-on experience in nonprofit management, fundraising, and event planning.</li><li>Opportunity to network with professionals in the nonprofit sector and gain insight into the field.</li><li>Mentorship and guidance from experienced staff members.</li><li>$25 per hour</li><li>40 hours per week max</li></ul>Housing Housing is not provided. <div><div>Job OverviewEvery year, ACES offers an intensive Summer Naturalist program based out of ACES Hallam Lake visitor center and preserve in the heart of downtown Aspen. Summer Naturalists receive valuable training and guiding experience, focusing individual interests through the lens of mountain ecology and environmental  issues. Naturalists guide hikes and lead programs at Aspen Mountain, Hallam Lake, Snowmass, the Maroon Bells, North Star Nature Preserve, and other iconic locations around Aspen.  The Summer Naturalist program has two goals. First, ACES aims to provide the best possible learning and working experience for Naturalists. The second goal is to offer informative and inspiring educational interactions to the public through ACES’ tours and programs. Since 1985, over 450 Naturalists have participated in this program, many moving on to meaningful careers as program directors, writers, public teachers, wildlife biologists, university professors, public land managers, environmental lawyers, veterinarians, non-profit administrators, and sustainability experts. Over the past 25 years, more than 80% of all ACES employees have come through the Summer Naturalist position, including some of our administrative staff. Responsibilities<ul><li> Lead interpretive nature walks at Aspen Mountain, Snowmass, and the Maroon Bells in the White River National Forest</li><li> Assist with the management of the Hallam Lake visitor center and 25-acre nature preserve</li><li> Learn about Rocky Mountain ecology</li><li> Teach environmental education programs for all ages</li><li> Conduct bird of prey programs with ACES’ resident injured birds of prey</li><li> Educate the public on ACES efforts to combat climate change through community engagement. </li><li> Involvement in special projects including indoor plants and live animals, indoor trout stream and rearing troughs, garden, and guided trails, and birds of prey program</li></ul> Qualifications<ul><li> Degree or focus of study in the natural sciences, environmental studies, or related field</li><li> Strong communication skills</li><li> Self-motivated with a sincere interest in the environment</li><li> Experience working with the public</li><li> First Aid &amp; CPR certification (completed by June 3, 2025)</li><li> Must be a US citizen</li></ul> Dates of EmploymentJune 3 – September 1, 2025 (June 3 – 13 mandatory staff training) Compensation<ul><li> $570 weekly stipend</li><li> Shared housing is provided within walking distance of ACES</li><li> Weekly food box from ACES Rock Bottom Ranch</li><li> Tuition-free participation in one or more of ACES Naturalist Field School courses</li></ul> Naturalist Summer Assistance Program<ul><li> Hired Summer Naturalists are eligible for an additional $250-$2500 of funding to help with expenses associated with the position. </li></ul> The deadline to apply is February 15, 2025.
