Founded by MIT alumni, Natel Energy is working to support healthy rivers, promote biodiversity and decarbonize the grid through fish-safe hydropower. As demand for renewable power increases, Natel seeks to answer the growing need to modernize the aging hydro fleet and increase hydropower’s sustainability. Natel engineers design fish-safe hydropower turbines, adapt fish-safe turbine runners to specific project sites, and model the fish safety of those turbines. We also test with live fish in our hydraulic test facility, and we are in the process of designing and building an expanded test facility. Natel is a small, scrappy team of people with a can-do attitude; members of our team have the opportunity to participate in a variety of projects. Natel is located in the heart of the Bay Area with an office, machine shop, and fish testing facility on the former Naval Air Station in Alameda, CA. The work environment is dynamic, collaborative, dog-friendly, and energized by recent technical and commercial successes.
