What we are building ecoplanet builds the operating system for the energy transition. Our software helps European businesses cut energy costs, run more efficiently, and take the pain out of managing energy day to day. We are around 40 people and backed by EQT Ventures, HV Capital and others. Why This Role Matters You build and run the platform the whole product sits on: the event streams, the backend services and the cloud infrastructure everything else is built on. Meter readings arrive from industrial sites across Europe, through messages or us accessing APIs. Your job is to make sure that traffic lands reliably, moves through the system in a shape other teams can build on, and keeps doing so as the number of sites grows. You join a team of 12 engineers in two squads. Small team, real ownership, and what you build reaches customers in weeks rather than quarters. What you will work on<ul><li>Event streaming. Kafka is the spine of the system. You own topic and schema design, partitioning, retention and delivery semantics  and the everyday reality behind them: consumers falling behind, replays, backfills, late and duplicated readings.</li><li>Backend services in TypeScript. The ingestion services, integrations and APIs around that stream. Every site is a little different, so a good part of the job is turning that variety into one consistent interface the product squads can rely on.</li><li>Cloud infrastructure on GCP. Compute, networking, IAM, infrastructure as code, CI/CD and observability. The goal is a paved road: other engineers ship and debug their own services without going through you.</li><li>Technical direction. You are senior enough to set it. Where we invest in the platform, what we standardise, what we deliberately leave rough for now  and bringing the rest of the team along with it.</li></ul> What Sets You Up for Success Must have:<ul><li>At least 6–8 years building and running backend systems in production, including real time in a platform or infrastructure role that other engineers depended on</li><li>Strong backend engineering in TypeScript. You have designed, shipped and operated services and APIs in it — not just touched it around the edges of a frontend</li><li>Hands-on with Kafka in production. Topic design, consumer groups, ordering and delivery guarantees, and what you actually do at 3am when a consumer group is hours behind. A comparable streaming platform is fine if you know it at that depth</li><li>Solid on GCP or an equivalent cloud: containers, networking and IAM basics, infrastructure as code, CI/CD, monitoring and alerting. You have owned infrastructure, not just deployed onto it</li><li>Comfortable with high-volume time-series data: ingestion, data quality, backfills, and the everyday reality of late, missing and duplicated readings</li><li>You have seen a few things. Enough production years behind you to know which trade-offs come back to bite, when the boring option is the right one, and how to make a call with incomplete information instead of waiting for certainty</li><li>Kubernetes knowledge at the level of running it, not only deploying to it.</li><li>Clear written and spoken English. What we are building ecoplanet builds the operating system for the energy transition. We are around 40 people and backed by EQT Ventures, HV Capital and others. Why This Role Matters You lead engineering at ecoplanet: 11 engineers in two squads, including two squad leads. This is the most senior engineering role in the company. There is no CTO above you. You own the technical direction, not just the delivery of someone else's plan, and you are the engineering voice on the leadership team. It is also a hands-on job. With a team this size you stay close to the code and the architecture. If you have been away from technical work for a few years, this might not be the right role for you. What you will own:<ul><li>The team. 11 engineers, which includes two engineering managers. Hiring, performance, growth, and keeping good people</li><li>The systems. Our Cockpit SaaS platform, the metering and IoT integration layer, the data platform (time-series ingestion, quality, pipelines), the forecasting and optimization services, and the automation that acts on customer assets</li><li>The technical direction. Architecture, build-vs-buy, and the big platform calls</li><li>Delivery. Quarterly roadmap execution, owned together with Product</li><li>Operations. Reliability, on-call, incidents, security posture, and cloud spend</li></ul> What You’ll Achieve <ul><li>Get the best out of the team you have and grow only where it clearly adds. At 11 people, losing one strong engineer costs more than one extra hire gains. But you should be capable of growing the team substantially if business demands it</li><li>Turn the roadmap into commitments the company can count on. Surface dependencies early, clear blockers, and make the trade-off calls with Product and the founders.</li><li>We expect engineering to care about business and product and we expect you to be an example here</li><li>Set the architecture so it holds as data volume, customer count and the team grow.</li><li>Run incidents properly: fast response, honest postmortems, fixes that stop the same thing happening again</li><li>Keep enough processes to be reliable and no more. Some excellent large-company leaders struggle here. There is no layer to hide behind</li><li>You have personally owned delivery predictability and reliability for a production system real customers depend on, and you can tell us what it looked like before and after</li><li>Strong technical judgment in at least two of: cloud and distributed backend / multi-tenant SaaS; high-volume or time-series data pipelines; IoT, device integration and real-time telemetry; ML or optimization in production. What we are building ecoplanet is a B2B SaaS platform for energy management, helping Germany's industrial Mittelstand get transparency and control over energy consumption, procurement, and regulatory requirements. We're Series A, backed by EQT Ventures and HV Capital. Why This Role Matters Our commercial engine runs on a production-grade GTM system: HubSpot as the single source of truth, an automation layer around it, and AI embedded in the daily workflows of Marketing, SDRs, AEs, and Customer Success. You'll take full ownership of it. Inheriting a running system is not a maintenance job. Commercial data degrades, tools change, and the roadmap - is bigger than what's built today. You'll run the revenue engine like a product you own: real users, a roadmap you set, and a scoreboard you answer to. Pipeline, conversion, and funnel velocity are your metrics. This is an individual contributor role with a direct line to commercial leadership. You do the building yourself, you decide what gets built next, and you can explain why. What You’ll Achieve <ul><li>Owning the complete GTM architecture: Not just a CRM - you own the full commercial system landscape. HubSpot as the single source of truth at the core, connected to call intelligence, and custom dashboards for sales and leadership. You own the blueprint: data model, lifecycle stages, routing, reporting, and every connection in between.</li><li>AI along the entire journey: Call analysis and deal scoring from transcripts, stale-deal detection, customer health scoring - and beyond what's already live: you spot process steps across the whole commercial journey, from first touch to renewal, where AI makes the team measurably faster, and you automate them.</li><li>The lead engine: Lead enrichment &amp; tracking, List building, signal detection, website-visitor identification, and clean tracking from first touch into the CRM, so SDR time goes into selling instead of spreadsheet work.</li><li>Stakeholder relationship: You sit between commercial leadership and the teams working in your systems daily: Marketing, SDRs, AEs, Customer Success. You translate funnel problems into builds, run vendor evaluations, decide what enters the stack - and make sure what you ship gets used: place it where the work happens, train the team, measure usage, iterate.</li><li>Real ownership. There's no backlog owner writing you specs. You sit close to the funnel, spot what's broken or missing before anyone asks, bring your own solutions, and argue for them. If you need a ticket to start moving, this isn't your role.</li></ul> What Sets You Up for Success Must have: <ul><li>Min. 2 years in RevOps, GTM Engineering, Sales/Marketing Operations, or Growth - titles vary, ownership doesn't.</li><li>Hands-on experience architecting a HubSpot instance - how objects, properties, and data structures fit together - not just administering one.
