We are a small and scrappy startup and we’re looking for the kind of individual whose experience and mission-alignment stand out since this person will impact our company from Day One.   The OpportunityYou will have ownership of a slate of assignments that will be shaped by evolving business priorities, and have a high degree of visibility to our executives and likely to external parties as well. The successful candidate will be comfortable both debating strategic issues with business leaders and rolling up their sleeves to execute on tasks at an operational level. Sample projects could include building industry research, evaluating business opportunities and market landscape, conducting investor due diligence, developing and updating financial models, creating infographics and visuals, drafting internal and external communications, and organizing events.  You must be comfortable owning work-streams with little supervision, from the scoping phase to gathering requirements, proactively providing regular status updates, analyzing data, synthesizing findings, and presenting results. This may involve networking and interviewing technical and non-technical stakeholders to learn processes, understand requirements, test hypotheses, or secure buy-in. The role reports to Shiru’s Chief of Staff. Cross-functional stakeholders include many of our Commercial/GTM, Finance, People, and R&amp;D team members. <h3>Education/Experience</h3><ul>
<li>Currently enrolled in, or recently having completed, an MBA program</li>
<li>Prior experience in food tech, venture capital, corporate M&amp;A, and/or growth-stage startups is a big plus</li>
<li>4+ years of work experience  with demonstrated track record of career advancement or progressively taking on more complex responsibilities, including extracting insights from data and presenting conclusions</li>
</ul><h3>Skills</h3><ul>
<li>Experience effectively presenting data-driven insights to company leaders and/or external parties (e.g. investors)</li>
<li>Top-quartile Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets expertise, with comfort building or inheriting financial models, and having proficient usage of index matches and lookup functions, error handling, conditional count/sum/if formulas</li>
<li>Proficiency in Microsoft Powerpoint and Google Slides, with demonstrable ability to produce informative, visually appealing “decks” for executives and senior decision makers</li>
<li>Comfort with basic corporate finance and accounting concepts, as well as familiarity with basic mechanics of startup fundraising</li>

You are looking to gather valuable ML experience, learn good practices and improve your team-work skills in a fast-paced startup environment. You love designing and developing end-to-end ML pipelines. You are eager to learn and to test research hypotheses. You can’t wait to design task-specific neural networks to be tested on real world lab data. <h3>Responsibilities</h3><ul>
<li>Conduct exploratory research in Machine Learning to help us solve protein discovery problems</li>
<li>Summarize findings with detailed written reports and presentations</li>
<li>Produce high impact research with potential to publish</li>
<li>Produce a deep review of the literature of the subfield impacted by the project</li>

<li>PhD candidate in CS, CE, ML, Statistics, Mathematics or related fields.</li>
<li>Experience with at least one ML framework (Tensorflow, Keras, PyTorch)</li>
<li>Applied ML tools to address a research question</li>
<li>Knowledge of molecular biology or proteomics is a plus</li>
<li>Experience with Transformers and Autoencoders is a plus</li>

Strong candidates will be familiar with protein characterization techniques and comfortable with the development and application of automated methods of liquid transfers, primarily working in microtiter plate format. Structured data manipulation and analysis will be expected throughout the course of this work, along with communication of results within and across teams.   <h3>Education and Technical Skills</h3><ul>
<li>Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's (Junior level or higher) or Master's degree program in Biology, Chemistry, Bioengineering, or other Biotechnology-related discipline</li>
<li>Basic laboratory skills, including: pipetting, solution preparation, and handling of laboratory equipment</li>
<li>Knowledge of protein separation techniques, such as SDS-PAGE, Western blotting, and ELISA</li>
<li>Familiarity with high-throughput screening techniques, such as microplate readers and automated liquid handling systems</li>
