Position Summary:
We are seeking an exceptionally driven and passionate individual to join our solid-state thermal battery systems engineering team. You will collaborate with internal & external engineering teams to scope, define, design, model, prototype, validate, and iterate the system architecture. You will be a key technical member of a cross-functional and rapidly growing organization. Your work will directly contribute to the demonstration of a first of a kind long-duration energy storage technology.
(This is a full-time position, but we are also open to temporary contract work in the near-term)
Roles and Responsibilities:
Create various system architectures and quickly understand the pros/cons/optimizations (power density, round trip efficiency, discharge duration, cost, reliability, etc) via theoretical/model-based investigations.
Collaborate with internal and external engineering partners on the design and operation of system prototypes and full-scale pilots.
Collaborate with the internal photovoltaic engineering team on the integration of photovoltaic modules into the thermal battery system.
Identify and scope deeper modeling and simulation investigations and hand off to appropriate internal systems engineering team members and/or external partners.
Define & execute experimental investigations to inform sub-system (thermal storage media, insulation, electrodes, photovoltaic cells, etc) designs and their integration with the broader system.
Own the costed system BOM, including the balance of plant (BOP), analyzing trade-offs for cost, performance, and life cycle cost implications.
8+ years’ experience architecting, modeling, designing, costing, and working with large scale, industrial hardware engineering projects (large power hookups, seismic considerations, grading & drainage, site logistics & equipment, etc.) that span multiple engineering disciplines
Proven ability to lead and operate comfortably across many engineering disciplines (e.g. mechanical, electrical, thermal, fluids, optical, controls)
Bachelors or equivalent in an engineering or technical field (e.g. mechanical, industrial, chemical, etc.).
Deep engineering experience and intuition, ideally with background in:
High-temperature thermal systems
Energy and power conversion
Radiation heat transfer
Controls architecture (integration & control of sensors & actuators)
Use of one or more of CAD, CFD, FEM, COMSOL, ANSYS, Aspen Plus, HYSYS

Antora’s operations are currently highly distributed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. While our core team is concentrated in the San Francisco Bay Area, many team members are currently working mostly or entirely from home, and we partner with contractors and suppliers across the US. Our facility is located in Sunnyvale, CA. For this role, some amount of on-site work will be required, and some flexibility in schedule can be accommodated. Benefits
