Job Description

About You:You balance analytical prowess with excellent soft skills. You have experience with loans and debt financing, whether in origination, facilitation, servicing, or in another capacity. You understand terms and conditions, credit approval, and may come from commercial real estate (CRE), telecommunications (including cell phone towers), energy, or banking. You are interested in loan structuring, client interaction and support, and overall portfolio management. You can understand and navigate between the needs of debt seekers and lenders. About Energetic Insurance:Energetic Insurance develops novel risk management solutions to unlock exponential growth in renewable and distributed energy. Our flagship product enables financing of commercial solar projects. We are a fast-paced venture-backed startup that recently closed a Series A fundraising round with participation from strategic venture capital investors from the finance, energy, and insurance sectors. We are backed by SCOR, one of the largest insurance companies in the world, as well as Schneider Electric Ventures and MS&AD Ventures. Our company is scaling rapidly; we’ve reached $80M in insured value across 12 states and over 160 projects, are working with multiple financial institutions, and are exploring new products and geographies. Our team doubled in size in Q4, and we will continue hiring heavily in 2022. Why this role is so unique:You have had experience in finance, but not like this. Our credit insurance policy expands the types of energy projects that are eligible for long term financing. You’ll steward management of a first-of-its kind portfolio and collaborate with our team as we develop creative structuring that touches primary lenders, secondary market purchases, project finance for large projects or portfolio transactions, and asset backed securitization. You will be a key part of the team who will communicate the product’s value proposition to financial industry channel partners and help dramatically increase distributed energy investments. You will help us to drive revenue for our credit insurance policy by developing sticky relationships with financial firms and banks.

Responsibilities

  • Work with clients directly, supporting as we bind policies and manage a growing portfolio of projects
  • Communicate with bankers; understand their needs, communicate client needs, provide structure guidance, and explain how deals work and the mutual benefits of an ongoing relationship
  • Participate in conferences and industry working groups on behalf of the company
  • Structure complex financial transactions and contracts in partnership with Legal Counsel
  • Educate and think creatively about how financial firms can use credit insurance to increase their lending parameters and better compete for non-traditional transactions
  • Support our underwriting team as they evaluate the financial aspects of inbound leads and prepare concise, well-reasoned credit memorandums and portfolio updates
  • Support the creation of new versions of our core policy as well as new risk management products
  • Facilitate receipt of continuous portfolio updates, assist with monitoring and reporting for the full portfolio, and communicate material changes and updates
  • Prepare market studies and illuminate industry trends
  • Bonus: understand securitization, rating process, and/or other specialty commercial finance topics and speak intelligently about them to bankers and customers

An ideal candidate will have

  • 5+ years working on project financing, credit portfolio or risk management, and/or trade credit financing in commercial real estate, telecommunications, or energy, at a large financial institution or commercial bank
  • Deep understanding of how a bank decides to mitigate credit exposure on their balance sheet via credit insurance, syndications, and other financial products
  • Knowledge of financial contracts and the nuances of financial transactions for leases, etc.
  • Ability to understand and explain complex financial concepts and products, including a strong understanding of bankers' point of view, motivations, risk profiles, etc.
  • Proactive willingness to identify opportunities for improvement across systems, processes, and channels
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced startup environment and manage competing priorities
  • Ability to work independently and resolve minor issues without direct input from a supervisor
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; excellent analytical ability and critical thinking skills
  • Bonus: experience with renewable energy project financing

Common destinations include New York, Boston, and London. Why you should work with us:You will be influential and will have the opportunity to become the foremost expert in a rapidly growing fintech/insurtech/cleantech niche space. You will have fun, learn a lot, be well-supported, and have a positive impact each day. Energetic Insurance is dedicated to building a diverse workforce as we grow and scale.
