You are excited about the prospect of gaining experience working with the R programming language.  About Energetic Insurance: Energetic Insurance develops novel risk management solutions to unlock exponential growth in renewable and distributed energy. Our flagship product enables financing of commercial solar projects.   We are a fast-paced venture-backed startup that recently closed a Series A fundraising round with participation from strategic venture capital investors from the finance, energy, and insurance sectors. We are backed by SCOR, one of the largest insurance companies in the world, as well as Schneider Electric Ventures and MS&AD Ventures.   Our company is scaling rapidly; we’ve reached $80M in insured value across 12 states and over 160 projects, are working with multiple financial institutions, and are exploring new products and geographies. Our team has doubled in size, and we will continue hiring heavily in 2022.   Job Description: In the role of Software Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, prototyping, and implementing new analytical tools for Energetic Insurance and improving existing analyses and code.   The vast majority of the work will be using the R programming language. 

Sample Projects Include:

  • Analyze thousands of locations to filter based on dynamic underwriting criteria to identify pre-qualified sites
  • Develop and expand proprietary databases of project attributes
  • Support risk modeling for novel insurance products
  • Enhance the user experience for our business users using in-house software including conveying data in dashboards, maintaining existing tools and models, and working collaboratively with the Underwriting team.
  • Analyze trends and underlying correlated events in electricity and economic market data to inform product decision making
  • Assist in implementing automated updates for in-house apps and libraries (CI/CD)
  • Collaborate with internal teams to improve usability and user experience of analytics tools
  • Support roadmap development for advanced technology features and capabilities

Bonus Traits

  • Prior experience working with financial institutions, fintech products and/or risk underwriters
  • Experience with compute parallelization, load balancing, credential security
  • Strong independent contributor with ability to self-manage and prioritize
  • Knowledge of best practices in data privacy, security and compliance including GDPR

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in lab or social science, computer science, mathematics, engineering, or other related field or equivalent experience
  • Expert in programming in one or more of R, Python, C/C++, Matlab/Octave, C#/Java as well as expertise in relational databases and SQL
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct analyses and work with large structured and unstructured data sets
  • Understanding of modeling concepts
  • Skills, aptitude, and professionalism typically commensurate with approximately 5 or more years of experience in a software development role
