Role DescriptionForm Futures is a small team of creative innovators who are researching next-generation cell designs and chemistries. This may include working on future concepts for our iron-air system or working on new chemistries. You will work with a mechanical engineer on Form Futures to develop the mechanical embodiments of next-generation batteries. Depending on your interests and the stage of the team’s work, you may be involved in one or more of the following activities: envisioning and evaluating design alternatives for battery components and systems; prototyping design concepts; developing experimental fixtures and procedures to test the designs; learning about and assisting in different stages of the cell development process.
What You'll Do:
- Contribute to the research and development of new energy storage technologies and battery architectures
- Design mechanical embodiments for cell components, assemblies, and auxiliary systems
- Prototype your designs using in-house equipment and tools or outsourcing as necessary
- Test and iterate on your prototypes to meet design requirements
- Document your designs and experiments through SOPs, technical drawings, and supporting design justification
- Collaborate with members of Form Futures and/or the R&D Engineering team on various projects based on your skills, interests, and Form Energy’s priorities
- Present your work to stakeholders within the company
- Promote safety, especially in the development of new fabrication processes or experiments
What You'll Bring:
- Pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering
- Previous mechanical design experience (through industrial internship or academic positions)
- Experience in computer-aided design (CAD) (e.g., in SolidWorks)
- Hands-on experience with mechanical prototyping
- Some familiarity with sensors and data acquisition systems
- Some familiarity with data processing and plotting (e.g., with Python or MATLAB)
- Interest in energy storage technologies
- Battery experience not required
