Role DescriptionWe are looking for an experienced fabricator to run and maintain the prototyping shop at our Somerville R&D site. Among other tools, you will be operating a CNC mill, laser cutter and 3D printers. In this role you will process standard work orders, maintain and repair equipment, and facilitate the installation of new pieces of machinery into the shop.
This role will be on our Technical Operations team and coordinate broadly with shops at our other sites and across the company to support development operations. You are comfortable collaborating on the design of custom mechanical solutions tailored to unique design challenges as well as independently fabricating, and implementing those solutions.We make our shops accessible to all team members of Form Energy. Training and supervision of other users are a core part of this role.

What You'll Do:

  • Manage the prototyping shop with responsibility for machine function, stock inventory, safety, and area cleanliness
  • Develop trainings and train and mentor a growing team of technicians, engineers, and scientists on best shop practices and equipment usage
  • Support operational efforts by fabricating parts for use in experiments
  • Fabricate custom built solutions for problems posed by our various engineering design teams, offering feedback and consultations on design work
  • Recommend, as well as lead in the installation and assembly of new equipment or tools to increase shop capability

What You'll Bring:

  • 5+ years working as a machinist or in a prototyping shop setting
  • Manual / CNC milling experience (conversational programming preferred)
  • Prior teaching or training experience in a shop setting
  • Comfort working with plastics, aluminum, and steel
  • Strong sense of patience and safety in a fast paced environment
  • Ability to read and understand technical drawings and GD&T tolerancing
  • Comfort using digital tools, ticketing systems, and experience with CAD software
