Job Description

Form Energy is a U.S. technology and manufacturing company that is developing and commercializing cost-effective multi-day energy storage systems to enable the global electricity system to run on 100% low-cost renewable energy, every day of the year. Driven by Form’s core values of humanity, excellence, and creativity, our team is deeply motivated and inspired to create a better world. We seek to transform the energy landscape and do our part in making the world better for all. We are supported by leading investors who share a common belief that low-cost, multi-day energy storage will be a key enabler of tomorrow’s zero carbon electric system.
Role DescriptionWe are looking for a Senior Battery Engineer to aid in the product development efforts of Form Energy’s long duration energy storage system. The Senior Battery Engineer will be responsible for component integration, conceptual design, and active-area scale-up of Form Energy’s core energy-storing cell. Additionally, the Senior Battery Engineer will be responsible for specifying and coordinating experiments to validate electrochemical performance through scale-up and system integration. The Senior Battery Engineer will work closely with the Systems Engineering team to inform critical interface requirements and balance-of-plant equipment. As an electrochemical device expert on the Cell Engineering team, the Senior Battery Engineer will be a responsible individual for informing cell design changes from the interpretation of electrochemical performance data. The role is anticipated to be hands-on with a significant amount of time spent working in the lab. The ideal candidate will have deep practical experience with integrated electrochemical devices while exhibiting a scrappy, interdisciplinary problem-solving approach.

What You'll Do:

  • Propose product-intent cell and electrode design changes to optimize for mechanical design, heat transfer, mass transport, and over potential reduction
  • Be responsible for linking cell architecture and ancillary systems design improvements to electrochemical performance test data
  • Specify, execute, and interpret experiments to quantify electrochemical performance, qualify design packages, and bridge the gap between R&D and product devices
  • Wrangle data from test stands and electrochemical cells to enable data-based decision making and provide regular data updates to technical development team
  • Support electrochemical testing by writing test scripts, troubleshooting and resolving failures, and maintaining cells on test
  • Champion for safety, especially in the development of new laboratory processes and cell designs

What You'll Bring:

  • BS (MS preferred) in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field
  • 4+ years experience developing electrochemical devices with deep practical understanding of electrochemical science and systems
  • Experience bridging technical gaps from R&D and product development
  • Comfortable independently advancing experiments from conception through data analysis with a high level of attention to detail
  • Strong cross functional collaboration and communication skills within a group of peers and broader organization including remote team members
  • Enjoys a fast paced work environment
