We are developing soil carbon sequestration technology that uses the power of microbes to remove CO2 from the atmosphere and store it long term in soil. About the Role

The Research Enabler is the hero of Loam’s in-vitro R&D program, based in the peaceful and beautiful location of Orange, NSW.

In this role, you will be ensuring that our laboratories and research facilities are humming, enabling the brilliant research that Loam carries out to be executed efficiently. You will be responsible for supporting a broad range of stakeholders in the safe and optimal use of the laboratories to maximise project outcomes. You will play a lead role in managing all aspects of laboratories across the Product Development/Research and Development and more broadly across Australian sites. You will plan and execute the strategic direction and evolution of our lab spaces as we expand our operations. To excel you will have excellent communication and value strong collaboration and a passion to improvement. You will be proficient in managing laboratories, a demonstrated knowledge in a Quality management system and an understanding of ISO 17025. The role entails a strong experience in risk management and quality improvements as well as an understanding of the relevant regulatory requirements in the biotech industry. The role fits a strong people leader with team development experience and aligning the team planning to the broader business needs.

You will be working with the operations team to ensure that our laboratories continue to grow into enviable research facilities in the coming years. A safe, sustainable and ergonomic work environment will be what you strive toward at all times.


  • Provide expert technical support and assistance to research team members
  • Lead the development of best-practice workflows in the Loam laboratories
  • Train upskill staff in the safe operation of lab equipment
  • Proactively work to foster and maintain a safe working environment and attitudes of safety
  • Champion best practice with relevant Work, Health and Safety (WHS) requirements
  • Curate and maintain a laboratory equipment portfolio that enables excellent research
  • Develop long-term plan for laboratory growth
  • Provide effective communication across all channels on safety, workflows, lab updates
  • Oversee the purchase and receive lab consumables, management of inventory and supplies
  • Maintain the laboratory workplace to ensure research, learning and teaching requirements are met


You absolutely love it when your labs are running like a well-oiled machine. Operational efficiency and finding resourceful solutions make you tick. You are a ninja when it comes to basic laboratory equipment and you know who to call for help when you hit a complex problem. You love rock-solid safety protocols and knowing that your safe working strategies are being implemented gives you the warm and fuzzies.

  • Relevant scientific academic qualification, with extensive laboratory experience in physical containment level 1 and 2 microbiology laboratories, and wet chemistry laboratories. Skilled in aseptic techniques.
  • Experience in maintaining biosafety cabinets, incubators, autoclaves, shakers, growth chambers, microscopes, nutrient analyzer etc.
  • Experience in managing the operation of complex research laboratories.
  • Strong working knowledge of legislation relating to WHS, hazardous goods and OGTR guidelines.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to foster great working relationships and initiate collaborative programs
  • Demonstrated working knowledge and awareness of safety and operating procedures within chemical and microbiological lab environments.
