Job Description

With a clear vision, smart strategies, and significant and sustained financial support, Rewiring America is growing rapidly. As a Federal Senior Policy Manager on the Policy team you will own and drive critical efforts to influence federal policy initiatives. This role will manage the Federal policy team and lobbyists, lead the strategy and execution of federal policy, oversee targeted research and the drafting of key content, and provide critical perspectives in support of the multi-pronged policy strategy for Rewiring. This important work will continue and grow Rewiring America’s ability to affect federal policy, removing key barriers for electrification. This position reports to the Head of Policy.

What You’ll Do

Strategy:

  • Identify and develop creative strategic Federal policy solutions that align with Rewiring America’s mission
  • Develop and execute strategy for achieving Federal policy initiatives, putting together the relevant coalitions and partnerships to succeed
  • Develop strategies for maximizing the implementation of secured Federal policy wins, ensuring that Rewiring America and its allies “win the win”

Project Management:

  • Own Rewiring America’s Federal legislative, regulatory, and implementation workstreams
  • Manage and execute legislative, regulatory, and implementation projects, from ideation to completion
  • Set Objectives and Key Results (OKRs) on a weekly and monthly basis, in collaboration with Policy Team leadership and in line with annual OKRs
  • Drive the development of resources such as fact sheets, memos, reports, and one pagers for both internal and external stakeholders
  • Help build institutional knowledge by ensuring documents are easily accessible across the organization

Outreach and stakeholder engagement:

  • Work cross-functionally with internal teams, particularly research, communications, partnerships, special projects, and product, on shared initiatives
  • Engage with external partners around policy campaigns, including active participation in and leadership of various coalitions
  • Lobby and partner directly with policymakers, their staff, regulators, and Administration officials
  • Maintain regular touchpoints with specific partners and internal stakeholders
  • Coordinate closely with Policy Partnerships lead on Federal Electrification Policy Coalition and Electrification Caucus work, supporting the ideation and execution of programming, recruitment, materials, and actions, where applicable
  • Manage federal lobbyist teams, in collaboration with the Head of Policy

Reports, Research, and Deliverables:

  • Manage and/or participate in report drafting
  • Oversee research and analysis projects related to Federal policy that:
    • Identify and develop specific policy initiatives and the associated impacts
    • Monitor industry/commercial developments including market trends regarding critical electrification infrastructure
  • Draft and help edit op-eds and various other written deliverables that serve Rewiring America’s mission and OKRs

We are looking for the following Core and Preferred qualifications:

Core

  • 7+ years of work experience, including direct Federal and/or State Policy work in energy and climate change
  • Content knowledge in climate, energy policy, and/or building electrification
  • In-depth experience working on a policy initiative and seeing it through from beginning to end; the ideal candidate has themselves spearheaded initiatives or key elements of initiatives
  • Adept at collaborating with various stakeholders, both internally and externally
  • Ability to apply both creative and critical thinking to complex policy and political situations
  • Experience working with executive-level positions in either the public or private sectors, i.e. Members of Congress, Administration officials, or C-suite executives
  • Strong commitment to the mission, policies and goals of Rewiring America
  • Experience hiring and managing a team and/or leading projects
  • Highly motivated and ability to excel as a self-starter
  • Demonstrated success balancing multiple projects simultaneously
  • Exceptional communication skills, written and verbal, with the ability to synthesize complex and nuanced ideas

Preferred

  • Prior experience in both the private and public sectors
  • Experience working in a fast-paced and entrepreneurial setting with tight deadlines
  • Direct Federal Policy experience, including working with policymakers on legislation and working on regulations with Agency staff
  • Advanced degree or equivalent experience in public administration, public policy, political science, law, economics or a related field

Benefits

The salary range for this position is $110,00-140,000, commensurate with experience. Rewiring America also offers a very generous and competitive benefits package, including 100% employer-paid health, dental, and vision insurance, up to 6% employer match on 401k contributions, pre-tax transportation benefits, paid holidays, vacation, sick, and volunteer time off, and access to professional development resources. This position is remote.
