Job Description

Reporting to: Vice President, Credit-Finance

Location:  New York, NY or San Francisco, CA – expected to be in office Tuesday through Thursday pending COVID safety

Position Mission:  The Director, Credit-Finance will further Generate Capital’s (“Generate’s”) mission to lead the Resource Revolution (discussed below) by ensuring the delivery of financial management and related operations to Credit Portfolio management. The Credit-Finance Director will oversee the relationship with Generate Credit’s third-party loan administration, servicing and accounting providers; ensure accurate and timely reports of financial information including to manage month end closes; and act as a controller of key portfolio activities including fundings and wire activity. The Director will collaborate with the VP, Credit-Finance in strategic business planning and applying data and technology solutions to credit portfolio management. The Director will be supported by an Associate/Sr. Associate of Credit-Finance.

What you will do at Generate Capital as the Director, Credit-Finance

  • Manage third-party relationships and be the internal point-person for the Credit team’s loan administrator, servicer and accounting providers
  • Ensure accuracy of new credit investment set up in financial systems and ensure maintenance of related financial information over their life
  • Deliver timely month-end, quarter-end and year-end accounting packages for review by Generate’s accounting teams
  • Collaborate with Credit Investment teammates to review and comment on new investments for items that impact the above
  • Drive forward adoption of key tools, processes and systems related to the above and address existing gaps
  • Co-manage with the VP, Credit-Finance internal and external relationships across all key areas (e.g., Office of the CFO, Capital Markets, Treasury, Legal, FP&A, Tax, Accounting, People Operations, and other Generate teams)
  • Serve as the driving force behind development; accelerate change where possible, and unblock others where needed
  • Mentor and co-manage junior staff; be a culture-carrier for the team
  • Support other Credit-Finance activities as needed

Candidate qualifications & core characteristics:

  • Minimum of 8 years experience in a finance-related function of an investment or investment-related business (e.g., treasury, controller, accounting, audit or finance related functions of investment management firms)
  • Bachelor’s degree; Master’s preferred
  • Strong finance and accounting related background
  • Highly organized and detailed-oriented; demonstrated ability to work effectively in a cross-functional team
  • Tenacity for problem-solving
  • Experience managing individuals or teams
  • A demonstrated passion for, or commitment to, our mission
  • Ability to rapidly learn new business concepts, technical tools, and processes with minimal formal instruction
  • High level of self-awareness and humility, with excitement to meet difficult situations and new challenges
