Water/Climate Data Scientist

Waterplan is a fast-growing startup in the Climate Tech Space that develops a B2B Enterprise SaaS platform for companies to dynamically measure, respond, report and monitor local water risk.

Due to continued growth, we are looking for a Water/Climate Data Scientist to be a part of our Science Team and help develop our cutting edge hydrologic platform and provide scientific insights to our global customer-base across multiple economic sectors.  

You will be working in a fully remote distributed team across multiple disciplines at a science-oriented company and you will do this hand in hand with the Head of our Science Department.

About your core focus 

We are looking for a Water/Climate Data Scientist who wants to be a part of a fast-growing company and an ambitious Science Team. Your mission will be to help develop and support our hydrologic platform using advanced remote sensing, land surface modeling, and statistical/machine learning techniques.

Your main responsibilities will be to collaborate with a team of scientists to develop and implement solutions to better understand water risk, increase resiliency and reduce vulnerability to water-related hazards, and effectively communicate science-based results to various stakeholder groups. 

What we're looking for

  • Proficient in English

  • Graduate-level education (or 6+ years experience) in a relevant science-based field (e.g. hydrology, climatology, earth sciences, etc.)

  • 4+ years experience in scientific programming (Python preferred) and geospatial data science

  • Experience with remote sensing and satellite imagery (Google Earth Engine knowledge preferred)

  • Proficient science communication skills (written and oral)

  • Experience working with interdisciplinary teams

  • Self-motivated and a proactive team player

  • Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced, collaborative team environment with a goal oriented approach

Nice to have skills

  • Experience developing and/or using data from land surface and climate models 

  • General knowledge of statistical and machine learning techniques

  • Experience with cloud based infrastructure and tools (AWS preferred) 

  • Previous experience in the Climate-Tech Space
