We have an exciting and challenging opportunity for an Automation Controls & Equipment Engineer position focusing on creating automation and control for manufacturing our electrolyzers and its sub-assemblies. This influential position helps us bring state-of-the-art PLC-driven robotic cells, servo-actuated mechatronic systems and high-volume automated process equipment.

You will be based at our facility in San Carlos, CA or Natick, MA, and will report to our Manufacturing Engineering leader. Up to 50% travel may be required for this position.


  • Develop company level, factory level and line/machine level controls standards and specifications for application by internal equipment development team and external automation partners.
  • Create through to full deployment to production factory and line level controls architecture.
  • Create detailed utility layouts for entire assembly lines and interface with facilities teams for implementation Participate in initial equipment conceptual development and carefully balance product specifications, process requirements, layout complexity, cost, and lead-time limits.
  • Lay out new industrial electrical control panels which are NFPA79/NEC/UL508A compliant, and create electrical, pneumatic and fluid schematics.
  • Architect, write, and debug PLC ladder logic with an emphasis on generating code that is organized, structured, documented, maintainable and reusable. PLC code will interact with subsystems such as conveyors, robots, Manufacturing Execution System (MES), LabView, machine vision, and 3rd party equipment.


  • BS degree or higher in Electrical, Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineering (or equivalent) or 3+ years of experience as a hands-on Controls Engineer or Robotics Engineer working on automation and/or electromechanical systems.
  • Proficiency with process integration and electromechanical / mechatronic systems
  • Advanced proficiency programming industrial equipment
  • Proficiency selecting appropriate circuit protectors, wire and cable, sensors, safety hardware, PLC hardware, remote I/O, VFD and servo systems.
  • Proficiency creating detailed electrical and fluid schematics in CAD (AutoCAD Electrical preferred)
  • Experience programming Cartesian and Articulated robots is highly desired (Fanuc, Kuka, Motoman, Epson) Experience with Vision systems (Cognex, Keyence, Fanuc)
  • You've worn "many many hats" in the business; if a job needs to be done, you'll step in and do it if you are able
  • Ability to work with multi-disciplined teams
  • You are self-motivated, collaborative, data -driven, resourceful, adaptable and action oriented
  • Ability and willingness to travel upto 50% of the time as you have many stakeholders on each coast, and many places in-between.

Compensation & Benefits

[San Carlos Zone] Automation Controls & Equipment Engineer (P2): $101,000 - $134,000 per year

[Natick Zone] Automation Controls & Equipment Engineer (P2): $86,000 - $114,000 per year

Actual base salary offered to the hired applicant will be determined based on their work location, level, qualifications, job-related skills, as well as relevant education or training and experience.​
