Job Description

Reporting to the Controller, the purpose of the role is to play an integral part in interacting with and advising Generate's Finance and Accounting Team and senior management on technical accounting matters related to US GAAP and IFRS, as well as participate in strategic projects and transactions. This highly-visible position will develop and maintain close business relationships with various disciplines throughout the organization including FP&A, Asset Management, Capital Markets, Treasury, Tax, Legal and the Investment team.

What you will be doing at Generate Capital as the Senior Manager/Manager, Technical Accounting:

  • As a subject matter expert, work with the business and others in the organization to identify, resolve and document complex accounting issues and pending transactions.
  • Prepare and review accounting memoranda providing documentation of the Company’s application of accounting principles to specific transactions or events.
  • Evaluate various complex transaction structures against US GAAP and IFRS, recommends alternative structures to meet business and financial needs while complying with accounting principles and regulations.
  • Support the investment team, participating in different strategic projects with internal cross functional teams and external advisors (i.e., financials due diligence, integration activities, divestitures)
  • Coordinate and effectively communicate with various departments throughout the company and all levels of management regarding accounting issues.
  • Monitors standard-setters for latest accounting regulations, analyzes impact of new/emerging regulations on the company and proactively develops policy to address standard adoption and implementation.
  • Lead training sessions for company-wide finance personnel on both US GAAP and IFRS accounting.
  • Maintains strong relationship with external auditors; confers with external auditors on various transactions; documents transactions and decisions.
  • Strong SEC reporting knowledge needed and the ability to review SEC filings to provide value-added comments in the process.
  • Drives continuous process improvements to mitigate risks throughout the organization.
  • A valuable member of the Finance team who leads by example and contributes to and effectively influences decisions.
  • Serve as a mentor to others and has the ability to coach and develop cross functional team members.
  • Work with other accounting departments in the Generate company portfolio on implementing new accounting standards.
  • Integral to the finance function talent recruitment and development efforts.

Candidate qualifications & core characteristics:

  • A demonstrated passion for, or commitment to, our mission
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting
  • Professional Accounting Certification (CPA, CA or ACA)
  • Public firm transaction related experience is a plus.
  • Public firm National (Technical) Office or international assignment experience is a plus.
  • Typically, 8+ years accounting experience – solid technical accounting knowledge in many of the following areas: business combinations; divestitures; valuation; consolidation; inventory; property, plant and equipment; leasing; impairment; segment reporting; derivatives and hedging; debt and equity securities; equity method, including HLBV accounting and segment reporting. 
  • Minimum 6 years of Big 4 public accounting experience.
  • High level of self-awareness and humility, with excitement about confronting uncomfortable situations or new challenges.
  • Intellectual agility and curiosity, superb analytical skills; problem-solving is your default mode.
  • Able to influence others on important, complex and non-routine accounting issues.
  • Willingness to create or change procedures to effectively implement new or existing accounting policies.
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, including empathy, intuition, and listening.
  • Ability to meet deadlines, work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment and produce accurate results.
  • Effective listening skills.

Generate’s compensation packages are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. Salary decisions take into account a wide variety of factors including, but not limited to: skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, geographic location, and other business and organizational needs. A reasonable estimate of the base salary range for this role is $123,900 - $230,000. In addition, the compensation package may include a discretionary bonus and other benefits, including health care benefits, retirement benefits, benefits permitting paid days off (including sick leave, parental leave, and paid time off or vacation benefits), and other benefits that must be reported for federal tax purposes. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at the top of this range.
