Company Description: EVmatch is an early-stage cleantech company that’s advancing electric vehicle (EV) charging and widespread access through a reservation-based EV charging sharing platform. EVmatch’s app-based service allows homeowners, businesses, and multi-family properties to rent out private charging stations and supports widespread EV adoption. The EVmatch platform supports residential and commercial charging hosts who leverage the platform for management services, power sharing, and access controls with integrated EV charging equipment. EVmatch’s software creates a two-sided digital marketplace that makes EV chargers profitable for building owners, and easily accessible by EV drivers.  

The Marketing and Communications Team: Is responsible for brand development and management, corporate communications, product marketing, promotional activities, paid and earned media, digital advertising, content marketing, and overall cohesion of brand voice and identity across all company products and services. We are a small team that values creativity, curiosity, and taking ownership.

Position Overview: 

This position is an exciting opportunity for a seasoned marketing and communications director to drive growth and impact for any early-stage company in the rapidly accelerating EV charging sector. The selected candidate will take ownership of all marketing, communications, and brand development activities, significantly influencing the company’s next phase of growth and evolution.  

With support from the CEO, the Marketing and Communications Director will be responsible for developing and leading the company’s marketing and communications strategy to:

  • Raise company visibility and strengthen brand identity 
  • Develop public-facing marketing and communication campaigns to tell the story of our mission, our achievements, and the benefits of our products and services
  • Develop and manage comprehensive marketing strategies to drive customer acquisition, sales, and revenue growth
  • Develop and execute a media strategy to amplify EVmatch’s brand and garner earned media placements that increase awareness of our products and services
  • Develop and maintain company brand guide; monitor and maintain brand cohesion across all marketing collateral, social media, corporate communications, and products (e.g. web application, mobile applications, blog site, and future products)
  • Lead and execute content marketing strategy and ongoing campaigns
  • Grow the business in collaboration with the sales, product, and customer support teams 

This position may require travel up to 25% of the time, primarily in California.

Specific Duties:

Specific job duties include, but are not limited to:

Marketing strategy and planning

  • Develop a refreshed brand and style guide together with CEO and implement changes across all communication channels and marketing collateral
  • Conduct market research to develop effective messaging and storytelling across all target customer segments
  • Improve and develop tracking and analysis systems to understand and optimize paid advertising ROI by channel
  • Lead strategic projects to streamline all marketing and communication tools across the company and ensure the necessary infrastructure and systems are in place for accelerated growth

Drive customer acquisition, sales, and revenue growth

  • Lead direct customer outreach campaigns with team of 2-3 staff, contractors, and/or interns
  • Conduct direct customer outreach and lead generation campaigns through events, webinars, and tradeshows
  • Design, audit, and manage email marketing campaigns, including but not limited to automated campaigns to leads, company newsletters, and transactional emails to current customers

Manage digital marketing campaigns, SEO, and content creation

  • Manage and optimize digital advertising budget across a variety of channels, including, but not limited to: Search Ads, Google Ads, Apple Ads, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter; track advertising performance and manage budget
  • Develop and manage SEO strategy to drive traffic to website and mobile applications
  • Supervise and directly produce online content including blogs, social media posts, videos, and photography campaigns

Media outreach

  • Develop and execute corporate media strategy to increase brand awareness, support fundraising, and directly contribute to customer acquisition
  • Develop and supervise periodic press releases and pitch to media outlets; maintain internal reporter database and manage media relationships
  • Develop and supervise production of sponsored content for online media publications

Staff training and supervision

  • Supervise a small team of staff, consultants, and interns
  • Provide marketing and communications trainings
  • Edit written materials and provide feedback to staff and consultants, ensuring adherence to approved writing style guidelines

Product development support

  • Support product and executive team in developing product strategy, communicating new product features, and integrating marketing analysis into ongoing product development

Required Skills

  • BA/BS in business, marketing, communications, media studies, sociology, or other relevant field, or comparable skill development demonstrated by progressive professional growth in related field
  • 5-6 years of professional experience leading marketing, communications, and/or customer growth campaigns, as exhibited by prior work experiences
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent leadership and executive decision-making skills
  • Strong public speaking and selling skills
  • Creative problem solver with a can-do attitude
  • Ability to quickly test, iterate, and improve marketing strategies and campaigns to maximize ROI
  • Results-driven with a focus on measuring and achieving KPIs that drive business growth
  • Proficiency with a variety of marketing software tools and platforms, including, but not limited to: 
    • Google Analytics
    • Digital advertising platforms (e.g. Search Ads, Google Ads, Apple Ads, Facebook Ads)
    • Event tracking software (e.g. Amplitude or Mixpanel)
    • Marketing and CRM software (e.g. Hubspot)
    • Email marketing software (e.g. MailChimp or SendGrid)
    • Website and blog hosting sites (e.g. Wordpress)

Preferred Skills

  • Industry experience in clean energy, electric vehicle, mobility industry
  • Experience growing peer-to-peer platforms or dual-sided marketplaces
  • B2B and B2C sales experience
  • Startup experience
