Job Description

Tomorrow.io’s Space & Sensors team is responsible for the development of unique RF-based sensing systems, such as radar and sonar, from architecture through implementation. The team is also responsible for the  development of corresponding spacecraft and constellations in support of Tomorrow.io’s Operation Tomorrow Space, which will collect data to be integrated seamlessly into our existing forecasting and modeling systems, revolutionizing global weather intelligence.

We are looking for a Mission Operations Engineer who will help develop and maintain our mission operations capabilities. We are taking a lightweight “prime” approach to our space program, working with a number of vendors and partners on spacecraft manufacturing and operations, and developing payload and science operations capabilities internally. As such, “mission operations” at Tomorrow.io includes the overall constellation conops and implementation, with a particular focus on communications and data handling, mission (payload) planning, and scientific operations, and is implemented within a software-centric, primarily automated, environment. This is a unique opportunity to join a passionate and fast-growing team, and to have an integral role in the deployment of our satellite constellation. 

 

What you’ll do:

  • Develop, execute, and maintain processes for payload operations planning and delivery of uplink artifacts
  • Ensures routine delivery of downlinked artifacts to science team and responds to off-nominal conditions in the data processing pipeline
  • Supports routine state of health assessment and response to off-nominal spacecraft and payload performance
  • Development of new science operations, mission planning, and payload tasking capabilities
  • Development of operational software tools to support data analysis and other routine tasks
  • Develop documentation and interact with multidisciplinary stakeholders 
  • Modeling and simulation to inform new mission conops using tools such as STK and Python

 

What you bring:

  • 3+ years of relevant spacecraft development, mission operations, and/or ground software experience
  • Experience with spacecraft functional testing
  • Experience working closely with software development teams
  • Experience with on-orbit anomaly detection and resolution
  • Thorough understanding of all phases of a spacecraft mission including pre-launch, LEOP, commissioning, mission operations, decommissioning, and de-orbit
  • Thorough understanding of spacecraft subsystems and their interfaces
  • Thorough understanding of orbital mechanics and rigid body dynamics
  • Thorough understanding of the spacecraft and orbital environment (thermal, radiation, etc)
  • Strong proficiency with Linux/Unix environments and shell scripting
  • Strong proficiency with data analysis in Python or equivalent

Anticipated salary range is $100K-$155K, subject to local market and a candidate’s skills and experience.  Health, leave and other benefits included. Multiple roles open with varying experience required. Relocation assistance may be offered / available.
