Job Description

Wanted: UX/UI Designer

Are you passionate about user experience? Does optimizing customer journeys and getting them to the right place bring you joy? Would you rather come to work in jeans? Does the idea of making a positive impact on the planet excite you? If so, we’re looking for you!

You:

  • Have pulled recyclables out of the trash
  • Appreciate a good debate even with your boss
  • Figure out how to fix it instead of who is to blame
  • Aren’t afraid of jumping in the deep end
  • Are excited about building empowered teams
  • Are really interested in electric vehicles

We:

  • Believe we do not inherit the earth from our ancestors; we borrow it from our children
  • Work to protect and restore the environment
  • Aren't afraid to make mistakes as long as we learn
  • Care more about your values and intelligence than your experience
  • Are committed to creating team dynamics that create empowerment vs. entitlement

Our Core Values:

  1. Commit to a culture that builds a strong COMMUNITY
  2. Foster CREATIVITY to inspire fresh innovation
  3. Embrace COURAGE by taking action despite uncertainty
  4. Live with Awareness and CONSCIOUSNESS of our choices

The Opportunity:

We are seeking a highly motivated, collaborative-minded UX Designer who is excited about revolutionizing how we as humans think of waste. This role reports to the Director of Experience Strategy and Design and will focus on delivering exceptional user experiences that meet user, business, and technical requirements. Lomi is our answer to the earth's waste problem and was one of Indiegogo’s most successful crowdfunding campaigns. We are already hard at work designing Lomi 2.0, which will be a connected smart Lomi. A connected Lomi will make dealing with waste easier, more fun, and even more rewarding for the customer.

As part of our UX team, you will be contributing to the UX of all our Lomi digital product experiences including web, iOS and Android applications. You will work in a highly collaborative team of software engineers, material scientists, UX designers & researchers, and product managers to bring the vision of Lomi to life. Come help us realize our goal of removing a billion pounds of waste from our planet! This is a remote-friendly role.

The Responsibilities:

  • Support across a range of experiences as needed: Mobile app, Ecommerce, and physical product
  • Work with product managers and Sr. UX Designers to proactively uncover, and translate requirements from stakeholders
  • Work with UX Researcher to internalize a thorough understanding of our customers, their needs, and pain points across the entire customer journey and design research artifacts to aid in decision-making for the whole team
  • Encourage an even more empathetic organization alongside UX Researcher by discussing research findings and their application to our experiences with audiences across the organization to socialize a common understanding of our customers through written and oral presentations
  • Champion the user throughout the design process by participating in, owning the design of, and delivering UX artifacts (including but not limited to: user story mapping, user flows, user stories, wireframes, and prototypes) required to make insight-driven design decisions
  • Incorporate interaction design, information design, and user behavior knowledge into design artifacts
  • Bring simplicity and usability to complicated interactions and flows
  • Contribute to the organization, documentation, and maintenance of a design system and design principles repository
  • Consult on and advocate for our customers in business and design decisions
  • You love analyzing customer behavior and optimizing to reach a goal. You are comfortable experimenting and pivoting when something doesn’t quite work.
  • Review features implemented by engineering and conduct design negotiations to ensure an optimal balance of technology and user experience
  • Communication and collaboration are key in this role. You can communicate effectively with people inside and outside the technology team to ensure a shared understanding of our customers.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience (2+ years) as a strong UX team member. You can tackle complex design challenges and transform them into elegant solutions.
  • An online portfolio that demonstrates your ability to turn ideas into a strong and unique creative vision. We are excited to see what you can do and have done in the past.
  • Independent and highly driven
  • Logical and high attention to detail
  • Proficient and effective use of industry-standard UX and UI design platforms
  • Ability to identify and conduct the right UX activities to solve a problem
  • Strong verbal communication and presentation skills—you’re practiced at articulating design decisions and underlying behavioral rationale
  • Experience working with product owners, developers, and other designers. You are comfortable working with all roles and types of people.
  • Comfortable contributing to both digital and physical product experiences
  • Willingness to work with developers to accommodate technical challenges in designs. User Experience is always the top priority but sometimes our tech stack has limitations.
  • Ready and willing to ask and answer questions. You’re comfortable saying you’re unsure and asking for help. You thrive, and Pela thrives because of continuous learning.

Bonus Qualifications:

  • Experience working on E-commerce websites
  • Experience building and optimizing conversion funnels
  • Experience with subscription or pay-over-time products
  • Experience designing mobile applications

Salary range- $75000-$85000
