Afresh is on a mission to eliminate food waste and make fresh food accessible to all. About the role

The Developer Experience team at Afresh enables our engineers to do fulfilling work faster by removing friction and toil from Afresh’s software development lifecycle. As a senior staff engineer on this team, you will…

  • Champion workflows, processes, automation, and tooling that create “paved roads” for our engineers to launch services and deploy code consistently, quickly, and safely
  • Regularly interface with engineering teams to share information across the department, provide guidance and support, and get buy-in for our team’s recommendations
  • Stay in tune with developer pain points and proactively lead projects to eliminate them
  • “Level up” our engineers through inspiration and mentorship, facilitating a department-wide culture of constructive feedback
  • Become a visible technical leader and best practices guru for the entire department

Skills and experience

  • 7+ years of professional software engineering experience
  • BS in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience
  • Firm grasp of Python (Node would be a bonus)
  • Driven to continuously learn, quick to pick up new technologies and ideas
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral
  • Able to understand business requirements and translate them into technical requirements
  • Strong desire to maximize developer productivity and experience, including demonstrable positive impact on developer experience in a recent role
  • Proven record of technical leadership and mentorship
  • Pride in "being glue” and doing work behind the scenes to keep the team moving forward
  • Respectfully opinionated and open-minded — can win others over to their way of thinking and be won over by sound arguments
  • Familiar with building reference implementations that support "paved roads” for engineers
  • Experience building and fostering adoption of observability tools
  • Experience setting up consistent dev environments
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and creating reproducible builds from development to production
  • Testing, automation, and documentation are an assumption, not an afterthought
