Job Description

Twelve is a new kind of chemical company built for the climate era. Our breakthrough technology eliminates emissions by turning CO2 into essential products. We are a team of scientists, engineers and problem solvers on a mission to fundamentally shift the way the world addresses climate change and lead the transition to a fossil free future with our carbon transformation technology.

Job Brief

Join our team of passionate engineers and scientists in helping us scale and uniform our coating process that manufactures the heart of our CO2 electrolyzers–the membrane electrode assembly (MEA). In this role, you will learn from the R&D team how to make our unique MEA that converts CO2 to value-added, fossil-free products. We are looking for you to add rigor to our process documentation and analysis, helping us identify opportunities to optimize and perfect our MEAs. While learning from our R&D line, you will contribute to a large team of scientists and engineers in designing, installing, and validating a first-in-class pilot line. After the initial validation, your role will focus on continued improvement of the pilot line with the goal of transferring the process to the manufacturing team.

What you will do

  • Lead the process development for the manufacturing of Twelve’s MEAs (membrane electrode assemblies) and collaborate with the fabrication, engineering, characterization, techno-economic analysts, and quality development teams.
  • Join a cross-functional team of characterization, mechanical, chemical, quality, and software engineers in the design, installation, optimization, and validation of our first-in-class pilot line coating system over the next year.
  • Create and maintain the documentation of our coating process for our MEA fabrication for a seamless transfer to our manufacturing team.
  • Continuously analyze process and quality data for opportunities to improve product yield, throughput, cost, and manufacturability.

Who you are

  • Proven experience in at least 1 of the following:
    • Scaling processes that manufacture electrochemical or electronic devices from the benchtop to a pilot line, or optimizing pilot manufacturing lines.
    • Developing or optimizing thick film (~1-100s microns) coating processes e.g. doctor blade, slot die, gravure, curtain, spray, screen or stencil printing, etc.
    • A combination of:
      • Strong foundation (equivalent to PhD) in materials science, chemistry, physics, chemE, mechE, or in some cases EE.
      • Demonstration of curiosity and comfort applying their fundamentals to learn about and solve problems outside their subject matter expertise.
  • Have strong data analysis skills using statistics, with at least some exposure to six sigma principles and statistical process control (SPC).
  • Experienced or willing to learn how to document processes by crafting PFDs, PFMEAs, SOPs, etc for an eventual tech transfer to our manufacturing team.
  • Skilled at implementing effective project management methods.
  • Desire to excel at mentoring or managing early career engineers.
  • Prioritize safety throughout your workflow.

Twelve Benefits

  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage
  • Paid sick days and vacation
  • Competitive salary and equity compensation commensurate with experience
  • Diverse and inclusive work environment
