Job Description

We’re making zero carbon happen

We’re OVO Group, a big family of companies united by a single vision: to get to zero carbon, fast.

We call this Plan Zero – and it shows how we’ll be fighting the climate crisis and transforming the way people use energy over the next decade. To do this, we need the sharpest minds. Are you up for the challenge?

Do great green things with OVO Energy

So much has changed since we launched in 2009.  Our goal remains the same though: make energy cheaper, greener, and simpler. Just as it was on day one.

Everyone belongs at OVO

Our aim is to build a diverse and inclusive movement: teams of brilliant people, with unique talents, skills, passions, and experiences.

We encourage everyone to join us, whatever your gender identity, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, age, life experience, or background. So please come as you are – we can’t wait to meet you.

Where in the world of OVO will I be working?

OVO is a heavily data-driven organisation with an ever-growing demand for excellent quality, reliable and accurate data to power our business: our Senior Leadership team prioritising investment, our Product teams working out the best way to serve and delight our customers in a highly regulated and competitive market, our Data Science teams building insights to help customers reduce their carbon impact by analysing their smart meter data.

The Care Data team will be responsible for ensuring high quality data is produced from the operational platforms within the Care domain, and is simple to find, easy to understand, and highly reliable. They will work as one of a set of federated teams across our domains, with a common goal of powering the way that OVO supports its customers on their net zero journey.

What will I be doing?

As the Data Product Manager for the Care domainyou will:

  • Own the Vision: you will be responsible for owning the long term vision, and driving the quarterly roadmap for the data products

  • Know your Customer: you will build strong relationships with business stakeholders, analysts, data scientists, engineers and data stewards from across OVO to understand their perspectives of working with Care data, and represent their voices into the rest of your team of engineers

  • Align, Prioritise and Measure: As per OVO’s Product and Tech culture, you will use OKRs and agile methodologies to break down work and ship value to the business via continuous delivery, actively measuring outcomes against goals, and iterating towards your product vision state,  in line with business priorities

  • Support your Team: You will work alongside a dedicated and highly skilled team of engineers, supporting them with the right prioritisation, to deliver value in line with OVO’s data strategy

  • Collaborate and Share: You will work closely with other Product Managers, Data PMs and ML Data PMs identifying opportunities to further enhance the data landscape to engineers, analysts and data scientists, and ensure alignment of programmes of work to minimise dependency and maximise pace

Key responsibilities include:

  • Develop an excellent understanding of the needs of your various diverse stakeholders across OVO, and their use cases for data

  • Define their problems and requirements, ideally finding common areas of opportunity to drive the greatest benefit for minimum effort

  • Break down and prioritise tasks by quantification of cost and effort against the benefit to the business

  • Work with stakeholders to ensure the priority calls you make are in line with strategic business direction

  • Support the engineering team using Agile methods to plan and deliver work
  • Champion your product in and outside of your team to ensure the greatest reach and impact across OVO

Is this the job for me?

  • A product manager with a passion for data and an analytical mindset

  • Love working with teams in areas like data engineering, analytics, or data science

  • Enjoy making sense of complex domains and sharing that understanding with others

  • Understand and embrace the highs and lows of teamwork in a fast-paced environment, with the ability to pivot to new priorities effectively

  • Feel at home collaborating with engineers and business leaders alike

  • Find joy in cutting through opinions with data and evidence

  • Know that building something great together takes resilience, perseverance, and a growth mindset

  • Recognise that everyone has their own strengths and seek ways to bring out the best in yourself and others

  • Know when it’s best to write something, say something, or show something to communicate your ideas

  • An ability to drive the delivery of cross-functional teams, ideally with Scrum, Kanban and other Agile methods

  • A focus on quality and accuracy when building data products

  • Ability to explain complex technical concepts simply to business and technical stakeholders at all levels
