Where in the world of OVO will I be working?

Reporting to the Managing Director of Home Services and working as part of the Home Services Leadership Team, you will have a broad role that is responsible for ensuring the Home Services business successfully manages its regulatory obligations, insurance arrangements and all aspects of risk and quality management.

 

OVO’s Home Services business is one of the leading providers of Heating and Home Emergency Insurance in the UK, providing peace of mind and a 24/7/365 response to over 300,000 homes.  We have ambitious plans to materially grow the business and diversify our products to support customers as they transition to zero carbon heating technologies.

 

What will I be doing?

This is an exciting role for someone with an insurance background to broaden their knowledge and experience and run Compliance, Risk and Quality disciplines and operate in an FCA registered Senior Management Function (SMF) role.  This role is also responsible for managing our insurance underwriting arrangements with our own Guernsey based insurance captive. 

 

You’ll ensure that the business has a strong governance and controls framework and conduct-focused culture, maintaining a pragmatic balance between risk, compliance, commerciality and customer outcomes.

 

This is a unique role in which you will have the opportunity to engage with C-suite executives, influence strategy and gain exposure to all aspects - commercial, operational and financial - of a regulated business.  However, there will be times when you will be in the detail, providing essential support and input to a diverse range of stakeholders and business challenges / opportunities.

 

To support this diverse remit, you’ll lead an experienced team of 13 colleagues that includes 3 direct reports; Risk, Compliance and Insurance Managers.

 

Key responsibilities include:

 

Compliance

  • Ensure delivery of the compliance monitoring plan
  • Ensure there is adequate and effective business governance
  • Analyse and coordinate the appropriate response to regulatory change
  • Support the business with the compliant delivery of new and existing products, systems and processes
  • Perform the SMF 16 Compliance Oversight function

 

Insurance

  • Manage key underwriting relationships
  • Oversee product governance and value related activities

 

Risk

  • Ongoing implementation of the risk management framework
  • Continuing the development of risk maturity in Home Services
  • Oversee development and delivery of risk monitoring plan and underlying audits

 

Quality

  • Ownership of the Home Services Quality Management System, spanning call quality, client file reviews, written customer communication etc.
  • Management of internal and external quality assurance resource



Is this the job for me?

 

You will need:

  • Detailed Knowledge / experience of working in the insurance industry, ideally B2C general insurance
  • Detailed knowledge and experience of the FCA’s regulatory regime
  • A strong understanding of risk management and assurance
  • A pragmatic and proportionate approach to compliance and risk management 
  • Experience leading teams and motivating them to achieve
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to influence senior stakeholders
  • Commercial awareness and customer focus
  • A good understanding of the 3 Lines of Defence model and how it should be deployed
  • Awareness and understanding of quality assurance and quality frameworks would be beneficial
  • Knowledge / experience of Consumer Credit regulated activities would be helpful, but not essential

  • Pragmatic and prepared to roll your sleeves up when required
  • Analytical with high attention to detail
  • Degree qualified with some commitment to continuing professional development, ideally a relevant qualification in Risk Management, Compliance, Quality Assurance or Auditing

 

This role is an FCA Senior Management Function (SMF16 - Compliance Oversight) so it is also essential that you are able to meet the FCA’s ‘good repute’ requirements.
