Job Description

Company Overview

King Energy is a well-funded, VC-backed renewable energy company that builds, owns, and operates solar infrastructure on multi-tenant properties.

We are truly a remote-first company.  We encourage occasional travel a few days a year to our headquarters in Durango, Colorado and San Luis Obispo, California; and we have two annual offsites.  But that’s it in terms of travel.

We have all the good benefits, stock options, PTO, etc. and we welcome everyone equally.

King Energy was founded by ex-Tesla, SolarCity, Aura, Roofstock, and Vista Equity executives with multiple successful exits.  We believe in experience and building talent from the ground up.  So if you have experience in renewable energy, or you want to switch industries and be part of the solution to climate change then talk to us.

Position

King Energy is seeking a full-time Solar Design Specialist. This role is part of the Operations organization and reports to the Director of Program Development, but works cross-functionally with the Sales organization on a regular basis.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Create preliminary designs and site markups for commercial solar projects tailored to the needs of the subject property
  • Draft technical design documents for system interconnection applications, including but not limited to single-line diagrams, site layouts, and electrical tap drawings
  • Collaborate with our Project Management and Procurement teams, and externally with our contractors, to ensure design optimization and accuracy
  • Support our Sales organization and its high-volume pipeline with timely deliverables
  • Evaluate equipment and vendors for use in system designs
  • Maintain records of design parameters, assumptions, and templates
  • Understand project economic modeling tools and process

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong work-ethic, ambition, and drive to succeed
  • Enthusiasm for renewable energy and solar, with a desire to build a long-term career in this industry
  • College degree from a four-year institution with a major in engineering, science, sustainability, environment, or similar technical discipline
  • Prior experience with drafting tools such as AutoCAD
  • Authorized to work in the US for any employer

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in renewable energy
  • Prior experience with solar design software such as Helioscope, Aurora, PVsyst, etc.
  • Sense of humor, with an ability to remain upbeat in a fast-paced startup work environment

Location

  • Durango, CO or San Luis Obispo, CA

Compensation

  • Annual salary ($50,000 to $70,000)
  • Stock options
  • Participation in the company's health benefits and 401k programs
