Where in the world of OVO will I be working?

Working within the Major Incident and Problem Team, the Service Continuity Manager will work to reduce the risk of Business disruption by supporting teams to develop, maintain and regularly test Service Continuity and DR plans for OVO Tech.
The Service Continuity Manager will be accountable for all aspects of the OVO Tech Service Continuity Management process, including development, governance, testing, compliance, reporting and continual improvement.

What will I be doing?

Key responsibilities include:

  • Develop and maintain OVO Tech service continuity and disaster recovery capability by facilitating and coordinating the development of plans, exercises, reviewing of existing plans, with monitoring and reporting on improvement activities.
  • Ensure effective communication and alignment between OVO Tech’s Service Continuity management and Business Continuity management. Implementing regular reviews of the process with key stakeholders, engineering managers and leadership, ensuring that outcomes and actions are documented and that opportunities for improvement are identified and prioritised as part of agile workflow in domain.
  • Ensure that business impact analysis is performed against all new and existing technical services. Working with Delivery, Engineering, Product and Business Operations teams to ensure potential business impacts of the loss of critical technology services are identified, prioritised, documented and well understood as part of daily working processes. 

  • Implement and govern the process to ensure that all new and existing services are designed to deliver the levels of recovery (RTO/RPO) as agreed. Work with Engineering teams to ensure defined recovery criteria is applied to new or enhanced infrastructure design.

  • To ensure the process is operated in line with documented requirements, targets, SLAs and OLAs where they exist

  • Ensure that technology service vulnerabilities are identified and disaster avoidance / impact reduction strategies are created. Support engineers and engineering management to make this a simple process that reflects any constraints they have.

  • Support Business Unit continuity plans in making adequate provision for technology service dependencies

  • Provide guidance to and coordinate the efforts of technology teams in the development of IT service recovery strategies, plans and documented recovery procedures

  • Recommend recovery strategies and options based on cost benefit and business impact analysis, and assisting with the implementation of recovery solutions

  • Supporting the business continuity management team in the creation of Business Continuity test scenarios and exercises that adequately test the dependency on technology services

  • Providing expertise and support to management and business units when a business disruption occurs

  • Working with Tech Delivery teams to ensure that as new equipment, facilities, services, and systems are implemented, the service continuity and disaster recovery requirements are understood and addressed

  • Developing awareness and training programmes for all staff involved in service continuity and disaster recovery activities. Supporting management where necessary with delivery of awareness and training

  • Stay informed of significant changes to infrastructure and team resourcing that could impact the continued effectiveness of continuity and recovery capabilities

  • Work with Service Assurance and Delivery to monitor the effectiveness of third party service continuity arrangements, holding partners to account where necessary

  • Ensure any service continuity technical risks are identified, assessed and managed 

  • Identify any corporate, statutory and/or regulatory requirements associated with the process and demonstrate that these are complied with at all times

  • Support internal/external audit engagement planning, preparation and evidence gathering to provide a true representation of OVO service continuity posture ensuring compliance with the various reporting requirements.

Is this the job for me?

Ideally you will have:

  • Experience of enterprise IT and cloud architecture patterns that promote resilience and redundancy in the event of failure.

  • Demonstrable working experience of IT / Business Continuity Planning and Crisis Management within large organisations, supporting business areas in performing risk and impact assessments.

  • Experience with reviewing or auditing the effectiveness of technical and operational continuity and disaster recovery procedures

  • Understanding of resilience across business operations, cyber/technology and 3rd-party/supplier disciplines – ideally within the Energy industry.

  • Good interpersonal skills, comfortable working at all levels of contact in a wide variety of situations, including c-suite

  • Excellent organisational skills 

  • Experience in working with an IT environment using Agile development methodologies and ITIL-based service management processes

  • A good understanding of NIST and ISO27001, ISO/IEC 22301, 22313 and 27031 standards would be desirable
