We are dedicated to shaping an inclusive culture that drives excellence, innovation, and results by enabling talent acceleration and development, engagement, and the employee experience.  The Quality/Production Team is a matrix organization within Beyond Meat that is dedicated to creating food products that are leading the gold standard in plant-based proteins. They are looking for an outstanding individual to join the team located in Devault, PA as the Plant Sanitarian.
The Plant Sanitarian plans and directs all activities concerned with development, application, and maintenance of sanitation standards for production processes and equipment.  This position will provide supervision to the sanitation team and/or janitorial team, along with training, maintaining documentation, strategy development, and ensuring standards and processes are followed.  


  • Coordinate with production, maintenance, and master sanitation schedule to provide training and leadership to production personnel during sanitation windows 
  • Develop and drive sanitation strategies by identifying long-term goals, leveraging resources, and delivering objectives through cross-functional alignment
  • Initiate and execute cleaning verification and validation programs to prove effectiveness of the sanitation program not limited to environmental monitoring, ATP, and micro data
  • Monitor and manage sanitation costs, contract services, and supply ordering such as, chemicals and PPEs
  • Develop and maintain the Master Sanitation Schedule
  • Oversees root cause sanitation investigations and collaborates on corrective and preventive actions
  • Proactively utilize process metrics and experience to prevent problems that could affect product quality and safety
  • Recommend improvements and provide suggestions to sanitation standards and work processes in areas of equipment, ventilation, and plant layout
  • Compile reports regarding inspections, sanitation violations, and steps taken to correct deficiencies
  • Work with the Quality and Production Leadership to develop procedures and techniques for verifying and validating the effectiveness of sanitation
  • Continuously evaluate sanitary conditions of the facility and production equipment
  • Conduct regularly scheduled internal and external audits on the facility, documentation, and procedures
  • Ensure that all aspects of sanitation within the plant and equipment comply within company and government standards
  • Experience and knowledge on in performing chemical titrations
  • Monitor wastewater discharges for permit requirements
  • Develop and implement SSOPs for standardization on sanitation practices
  • Perform Post-Op and Pre-Op inspections
  • Experience with chemicals and sanitation equipment
  • Adhere to all facility policies concerning safety, security, and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs)
  • Performs other duties, as assigned, and follows through on requests in a timely manner

Supervisory Duties

  • Lead and supervise employees, delegate processes and procedures within the plant area setting
  • Provide mentorship and training to functional team members
  • Accountable for developing talent through on-going performance feedback and career management coaching


  • Education, Technical Skills, and/or Previous Experience: 
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology, Food Science, Chemistry, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience preferred
  • Minimum 5 years proven experience in Quality, Sanitation, or similar role, with at least 3 years being in a leadership role
  • 2-5 years’ experience in a food and/or beverage manufacturing environment
  • Knowledge of food safety, GMP, HACCP, MSDS, 5S, RCA, GMP, FDA, SSOP’s, GFSI BRC, and chemical safety
  • Ability to understand and comply with government regulations
  • Must have the ability to quantitatively review technical procedures and representative regulations

Other qualifications:

  • Bi-lingual in Spanish is a plus, not a requirement
  • Strong PC skills, including MS office programs
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, problem solving, and organizational skills
  • The employee must have the ability to quantitatively review technical procedures and representative regulations. In addition, must be capable of writing detailed reports and general day-to-day oversight and related correspondence
  • The ability to effectively present information to groups and respond to questions from peers, supervisors, and managers is essential
  • Ability to multi-task and set priorities within Sanitation
  • Flexibility to work any/all shifts to support a high growth work environment.


  • Warehouse and production manufacturing environment that includes both tempered and ambient areas.

  • Position requires the ability to stand or sit for prolonged periods, step, balance, crouch, stoop, kneel, squat, bend, occasionally lifting up to 50 lbs., reach above shoulders, or as needed to complete tasks.
  • Must be able to occasionally climb stairs or a ladder to complete tasks
  • Position located in a mix of production and office environments and requires a tolerance for consistent cold work environments (-10-40˚ F), high worker traffic, loud noises, odors, dust, and varying room temperatures.
  • This position will be required to visit the production floor, refrigerated and frozen storage, and warehouses.
  • Work flexible shifts as required.
  • Understand that overtime and occasional weekends and/or worked holidays will be required based on company needs.
  • Travel may be required

The starting annual base pay for this role is between USD $75,000 and 85,000.  The actual base is dependent upon many factors, such as: training, transferable skills, work experience, business needs and market demands.  The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. The role may also be eligible for bonus, equity, and benefits.
