Where in the world of OVO will I be working?

Working within OVO’s Industry Operations -  Orchestration and Exports team,  this is an exciting opportunity to help design and deliver not only a service orchestration tech platform that will not only support existing teams and processes within Industry Operations but help set an example for the wider business.  Within the exports domain you’ll have the opportunity to join the discovery phase of this new platform whilst also building technologies to define, scale, automate and report on processes to support new and existing export energy customers.
Orchestration and Exports sits within the wider Industry Operations tech squad along with areas such as teams supporting settlements and machine learning solutions.. We trust our development teams to choose their tech stacks, you’ll encounter technologies such as Kafka, Kafka Streams, Grafana, Docker, Python, Kotlin and Terraform. We run our services primarily in AWS.
Across all our brands we have around 350 Engineers all with varying backgrounds and levels of experience. One key thing that all of our engineers have in common is a desire to develop brilliant, industry redefining products as well as their own skills.

What will I be doing?

Key responsibilities include:

  • Setting a strategy for the use of data within our team and developing guidelines for how we use these across our streaming technologies.
  • Building and maintaining integration pipelines that power our automated journeys.
  • Transforming streaming data to meet the target schema.
  • Working in an agile engineering team where you will have the opportunity to influence technology selection.
  • Helping to establish good engineering processes within the team including: using infrastructure as code; contributing to automated testing efforts; utilizing monitoring and alerting tools; and employing CI/CD best practices to deploy regularly to production.
  • Collaborating with  stakeholders a engineers within the team to gain insights from our data lakes and visualize these for our stakeholders
  • Our team aspire to be more data driven,  you’ll have the opportunity to drive strategies for whilst coaching other engineer team member in our approaches

Is this the job for me?

Ideally you will have:

  • A proven track record of designing, building, monitoring and managing large-scale data products, pipelines, tooling and platforms.
  • Experience working on streaming ETL solutions utilising streaming data processing tools (e.g. Kafka Streams, Kinesis, Spark or similar).
  • Experience developing cloud-based solutions on GCP, AWS or Azure using Infrastructure as code tools such as Terraform.
  • Excellent knowledge of at least one programming language e.g. Scala, Python, Java.
  • Knowledge of the best engineering practices and continuous delivery.
  • An understanding that building quality is essential and you value automation and continuous delivery.
  • A love for building scalable, resilient solutions, and you enjoy influencing the team’s technology selection and architectural direction.
  • You will be comfortable working in an agile development environment with regular release cycles, and have experience of pair programming, BDD/TDD, CI/CD and deployment strategies.
