Job Overview:
The R&D Mechanical Engineer will have knowledge of designing static process equipment, to include piping, heat exchangers, pressure vessels, and valves. The R&D Mechanical Engineer is responsible for selecting, designing, optimizing, costing, and sizing sub-system components for Carbon America’s technologies. The engineer will also provide support in the fabrication and testing of new process equipment designs.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
Required |
· 3+ years of experience in mechanical engineering or related field (6+ for Principal) · CAD (e.g. SolidWorks, AutoCAD) expertise · Demonstrated knowledge of mechanical engineering principles and practices · Mastery of basic/fundamental mechanical calculations · Experience using Codes/Standards in mechanical design, such as ASME BPVC, B31.1, B31.3, B16.5, and B16.47, TEMA, API, PIP, NACE · Excellent communication skills, including active listening skills · Excellent organizational skills and ability to track lots of disparate details · B.S. in Engineering (e.g. Mechanical, Chemical, Materials preferred)

· M.S./M.E. or Ph.D. in Engineering (e.g. Mechanical, Chemical, Materials) · Experience in one or more of the following: o Designing static process equipment, preferably heat exchangers and pressure vessels o Designing process plant piping systems (e.g., materials selection, wall thickness calculations, routing, stress analysis and support, valve specification, etc.) · Cost estimating for fabrication and/or construction · Experience using HTRI, Compress, and/or PVElite · Experience performing structural and heat transfer FEA · Experience in metal fabrication · Expertise in thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid dynamics · Experience with industrial or power plant system designs; cryogenic systems a plus · Knowledge of energy-sector and carbon-capture · Professional licensure
