Job Description

About Us

We are Sila, a next-generation battery materials company. Our mission is to power the world’s transition to clean energy. To create this future, our team is building a better lithium-ion battery from the inside out today. We engineer and manufacture ground-breaking battery materials that significantly increase the energy density of batteries, while reducing their size and weight. The result? Smaller more powerful batteries that can unlock innovation in consumer devices and accelerate the mass adoption of electric cars to eliminate our dependence on fossil fuels. We're tackling one of the biggest challenges of our time every day, and together we're redefining what's possible. Are you ready to be a part of a team committed to changing the world?

Who You Are

  • Serve as the main point of contact for process engineering inquiries from conceptual design through detailed design, construction, start-up, and initial operation. Respond to technical RFIs and submittals across multiple contractors.
  • Work with external engineering resources for drawing and design review cycles, ensuring compliance with applicable codes and standards; close gaps encountered in different phases of the project
  • Handle design changes to the overall facility block flow diagram and heat and mass balance, including utilities
  • Develop internal processes based on industry standards and requirements
  • Travel to build sites and contractors’ offices for design and commissioning support

Knowledge and Skill Requirements

  • B.S. in Chemical Engineering or related field with 5+ years of large capital project experience
  • Fluent in capital process design documentation
  • Familiar with working with and designing to industrial standards
  • Familiar with Process Modeling software such as Aveva Process Simulation/ SimCentral (preferred), ASPEN, HYSYS, ProII, or gPROMs
  • Process design experience including generating BFDs and HMBs, cost estimation, preliminary equipment sizing, and P&ID development
  • Familiarity with Process Hazard Analysis reviews
  • Experience in a PSM environment would be nice

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

  • Move long distances and be stationary for extended periods of time
  • Wear personal protective equipment including, but not limited to, a hard hat, gloves, safety glasses, and safety shoes
  • Occasionally kneel or bend
  • Up to 25% travel to and from build sites and contractors’ design offices

The starting base pay for this role is between $164,000 and $210,250 at the time of posting. The actual base pay depends on many factors, such as education, experience, and skills. Base pay is only one part of Sila’s competitive Total Rewards package that can include benefits, perks, equity, and bonuses.  The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
