About Us

We are Sila, a next-generation battery materials company. Our mission is to power the world’s transition to clean energy. To create this future, our team is building a better lithium-ion battery from the inside out today. We engineer and manufacture ground-breaking battery materials that significantly increase the energy density of batteries, while reducing their size and weight. The result? Smaller more powerful batteries that can unlock innovation in consumer devices and accelerate the mass adoption of electric cars to eliminate our dependence on fossil fuels. We're tackling one of the biggest challenges of our time every day, and together we're redefining what's possible. Are you ready to be a part of a team committed to changing the world?

Who You Are

You’re an experienced, hands-on engineer with a desire to help deploy the next generation of lithium-ion batteries in electric vehicles. Working at Sila, you’ll be the lead engineer on key customer programs, leading the effort to integrate our material into automotive cell designs and qualify automotive cells for commercialization. You’ll work across technical teams and with business partners to design experiments, analyze data, and create robust plans to meet our customer program landmarks. You’ll be a team-oriented technical leader, with excellent communication skills, working to usher in the future of electric vehicles.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Own technical success of assigned customer programs
  • Design, carry out, and analyze experiments to test the performance of cells made using Sila’s materials against automotive cell qualification standards
  • Develop and implement project plans to qualify Sila material in automotive scale cell builds and analyze results to improve performance for future builds
  • Effectively communicate ideas, plans, and results externally to customers and partners and internally across diverse Sila teams
  • Collaboratively define and prioritize areas of exploration and development relating to commercial readiness of Sila materials
  • Invest in what we value and champion them as we grow

Knowledge and Skill Requirements

  • Well-organized approach to problem solving, driven by curiosity and attention to detail
  • Very strong technical background, especially in chemistry
  • Demonstrated sense of ownership
  • Collaborative working and leadership style
  • Ability to carefully plan and implement multiple projects simultaneously
  • Experience leading customer- or partner-facing relationships in hardware businesses
  • Competent communicator (written and verbal), especially able to work across cultures
  • Strong data-driven experimental design skills
  • Understanding of lab safety best practices; experience with lithium-ion batteries is a plus
  • At least a B.S. in engineering or science and 7+ years of industry experience (fewer for candidates with an advanced degree)
  • Speaking of Korean or Japanese is a plus

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

  • Wear personal protective equipment including, but not limited to, a lab coat, gloves, safety glasses, and steel toe safety shoes
  • Able to work in a laboratory using glove boxes and fume hoods
  • Pass a respirator fit test and be able to wear respiratory protection on occasional basis
  • Able to travel domestically and internationally up to 30% of the time

The starting base pay for this role is between $146,000 and $184,250 at the time of posting. The actual base pay depends on many factors, such as education, experience, and skills. Base pay is only one part of Sila’s competitive Total Rewards package that can include benefits, perks, equity, and bonuses.  The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
