Job Description

At QuantAQ, our mission is to mitigate global air pollution.

As a company, we value the role that fundamental scientific and engineering research play in developing new technologies while doing so with the knowledge that what we build must scale if we want to meet our goals.

At QuantAQ, we provide access to professional-grade air quality data to a variety of clients (including research, government, and the private sector) to empower informed decision-making and to create cleaner (air) outcomes. We provide our clients with everything they need to build and manage distributed air quality sensor networks at scale including our proprietary air quality sensors (developed through years of R+D at MIT and Aerodyne Research) and our integrated software platform. We care deeply about using innovative technologies and socio-technological approaches to help businesses, governments, and community stakeholders obtain actionable air quality information across a variety of contexts.

If you're looking for an opportunity that allows you to highlight your own skills and solve one of society's most pressing environmental challenges, we would love to hear from you. To learn more about QuantAQ, check out our Climatetech Summit video.

What we're looking for

We are looking for a talented and experienced full-stack python developer to help drive the development of our core software platform. QuantAQ builds internet-connected air quality sensors and an associated software platform (QuantAQ Cloud). The QuantAQ Cloud supports our globally-distributed sensor network and helps our customers make educated decisions about their air quality in real-time.

The ideal candidate has a breadth of experience and interests across the software stack (including both frontend and backend web development), has experience scaling platforms, and has a desire to work in the (broadly defined) Environmental IoT space. Affinity for UI/UX focused development is desired. We’re a small startup team with rapidly expanding product-market fit, so as an individual contributor you will quickly gain end-to-end ownership over multiple areas of our platform with significant impact. If that excites you, let’s talk!

This role can be entirely remote or hybrid/in-person in San Francisco, CA or Somerville, MA. This role reports directly to the Product Lead.

Some of the tools/buzzwords related to our current tech stack:

  • Python

  • Flask

  • PostgreSQL

  • Redis

  • Docker

  • DigitalOcean

  • S3

  • Traefik

Qualifications

Candidates need not meet all requirements below, but the more that you meet, the better match you may be for our existing tech stack. Learning new tools on the fly is expected, and hopefully part of the fun.

  • Expertise in developing, testing, deploying, and scaling stable and secure software solutions

  • Expertise in Python and Flask

  • Experience with Javascript, front-end frameworks (i.e, React, Vue), and modern html/css

  • Experience with analytics/observability systems and products

  • Experience with version control (i.e., git, GitHub)

  • Experience with cloud services and data storage (AWS, GCP, DigitalOcean)

  • Experience with databases (especially PostgreSQL and Redis), database management, and storage query and optimization

  • Experience designing, using, and deploying RESTful APIs

  • Experience with DevOps tools (i.e, Docker, CI/CD, Traefik)

  • Ability to identify and learn new tools, libraries, and frameworks

  • Experience deploying ML models in production and familiarity with common ML python libraries such as scikit-learn, PyTorch, etc.

  • Background or interest in data science and/or machine learning

  • Background or interest in IoT communication and connected products

  • Prior experience at a startup or innovation team, iterating on early products and prototypes

  • Experience with agile collaboration and effective teamwork with distributed teams

  • Strong written communication, and comfort reasoning under uncertainty

Compensation and Benefits

Compensation for this position is competitive for Seed-stage tech companies in the Boston area: $92,000-130,000 + 0.1-0.4% equity. Benefits at QuantAQ include:

  • Health insurance with 85% company contribution and 50% contribution for dependants
