Job Description

This position will be a key member of Ascend Analytics’ market intelligence team, supporting European market forecasting analytics and activities. The role will require synthesizing trends in technology, markets, and policy with sound economic principles and power dispatch models to support the development of long-term energy price forecasts in the US and abroad, advising clients on market dynamics. This position will support Ascend’s resource planning, renewable integration, and energy storage consulting activities with electric utilities, developers, and financiers. The ideal candidate has a background in energy markets and policy; is able to synthesize information from a broad set of sources; communicates clearly; and exhibits high levels of leadership and professionalism.  

Job Responsibilities

• Perform quantitative analysis that combines technical considerations, economic factors, market rules, and regulatory/policy developments
• Be able to work both independently and collaboratively
• Take ownership of complex projects and be able to perform independent research and thought leadership, including writing white papers and presenting at conferences
• Assimilate complex information into readily understood reports and presentations 

Required Skills & Experience

• Bachelors Degree in a quantitative field, with substantial coursework in energy systems, economics, or engineering  
• Knowledge of the technical, economic, and policy aspects of electricity systems 
• Excellent quantitative analytical skills, including the use of Excel and the ability to develop and run analytical scripts in Python/R  
• Basic understanding of wholesale energy markets  
• Strong interpersonal skills, teamwork skills and work ethic 
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to prioritize multiple assignments and problem-solve with minimum supervision
• Excellent organizational skills 

Preferred Skills & Experience

• Graduate degree or 2+ years experience in energy systems and economics, including subjects such as electricity resource planning, wholesale power markets, power market regulation, energy technologies, energy infrastructure, and economic analysis.  
• Experience with or knowledge of European power markets 
• Experience preparing deliverables and presenting to clients  
• Experience performing independent research and synthesizing complex information  
• Familiarity with fundamental energy modeling tools and concepts 

Compensation  ($80,000 - $150,000)   

Negotiable based on qualifications and experience. Ascend highly values our employees and often pays above industry average.
