Job Description

We’re making zero carbon happen

We’re OVO Group, a big family of companies united by a single vision: to get to zero carbon, fast.

We call this Plan Zero – and it shows how we’ll be fighting the climate crisis and transforming the way people use energy over the next decade. To do this, we need the sharpest minds. Are you up for the challenge?

Do great green things with OVO Energy

So much has changed since we launched in 2009.  Our goal remains the same though: make energy cheaper, greener, and simpler. Just as it was on day one.

Everyone belongs at OVO

Our aim is to build a diverse and inclusive movement: teams of brilliant people, with unique talents, skills, passions, and experiences.

We encourage everyone to join us, whatever your gender identity, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, age, life experience, or background. So please come as you are – we can’t wait to meet you.

Where in the world of OVO will I be working?

You’ll be joining our OVO-wide UX community of 30+ User Researchers, Experience Designers and Content Designers. We help teams see through the eyes of real people – understanding their context, motivations, and needs. We use a variety of tools and methods to make the greatest impact.

What will I be doing?

We're looking for a Mid-Level Content Designer to join our UX team, as part of a team of Content Designers responsible for creating content that surprises and delights our existing customer base and prospective customers across multiple energy and decarbonisation products.

To do this, you’ll be assigned to one or more cross-functional Product teams, working alongside designers, researchers, engineers and a Product Owner.

Ensure our digital content supports our customers and our commercial goals and advances trust in OVO

  • Increase the clarity, consistency and focus of our online content by reducing proliferation and duplication
  • Ensure customers have accurate information at the relevant digital touchpoints
  • Explore several options for our users to arrive at what we believe to be the best option
  • Increase trust in our brand through consistency, accessibility and presence in search results
  • Run local audits of content and checks across our different digital channels

Support and give feedback to fellow Content Designers

  • Be an active and contributing member of the Content Design team
  • Strengthen the Content Design team through reviews of content across other Product teams and helping out where needed
  • Welcome feedback, recognise areas for development, and keep up with changes in Content Design generally
  • Seek ways to be creative within and outside designated product teams and challenge assumptions, to help us reach the best outcome for our customers
  • Help communicate the vision for more mature Content Design

Increase confidence in content within our designated Product Teams

  • Create and contribute to testing and learning to gather evidence
  • Conduct basic research on Content Design ideas and communicate your findings
  • Communicate ideas clearly and concisely and address issues speedily

Save time by bringing Content Design ways of working to designated Product Teams

  • Adapt Content Design structures to suit the product teams you work with
  • Choose from a range of Content Design methods and models to create and optimise content
  • Participate in workshops on Content Design concepts and practices
  • Participate in the UX community to better Content Design overall

Represent the Content Design discipline using processes and platforms

  • Represent Content Design within cross-functional product teams
  • Increase respect and understanding of Content Design methods, frameworks and practices
  • Communicate back to the Content Design team the volume and type of work you're focused on

Is this the job for me?

Ideally you’ll have…

An aptitude for communicating clearly and empathetically both in spoken and written settings.

  • The ability to simplify and communicate the complex to internal and external audiences.
  • Experience learning new tools and platforms and documenting knowledge.
  • Skills in building relationships with colleagues of different disciplines within a cross-functional team.

Experience supporting other Content Designers by giving and receiving constructive feedback.

  • An openness to feedback from within designated cross-functional teams and the willingness and confidence to raise and answer challenges.
  • Experience in Agile and adaptability for situations where circumstances require urgent work.
  • The ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • The ability to think both creatively and strategically.

Working with other disciplines in cross-functional product areas.

  • Extensive experience creating and managing web and app content.
  • Experience using content models (commonly found in headless CMSs) and following structures and processes for content delivery and maintenance.
  • Experience creating, building, reviewing, amending and deploying content.

A high attention to detail combining creativity and exploration with an inclination to be organised, analytical, and informed by evidence.

  • The ability to lead by example with impeccable spelling and good knowledge of English grammar.
  • Experience with both using and shaping brand, style and tone of voice guidelines.
