Job Description

We are looking for a Project Engineer to manage development and execution of energy efficiency/decarbonization projects with our commercial building owner customer base. This is a senior level position with both engineering and project management responsibilities.

In this role, you will be responsible for shepherding projects through their various pre- and post-construction phases for Gridium. This will include:

  • Perform preliminary analysis of customer sites to identify opportunities for energy efficiency/carbon reduction, capital improvement and facility operations:
    • Review of Gridium Energy Analytics findings
    • Site survey
    • Ideation of potential energy conservation measures or distributed energy resource opportunities
    • Preparation of preliminary cost and savings estimates
    • Sales support in client discussions
  • Lead delivery of investment grade energy audits to further refine and qualify measures identified in the preliminary analysis:
    • Detailed site audit
    • Validation of the energy efficiency measures being considered
    • Development of concept design and scope of work
    • Preparation of audit report
  • Participate in the implementation (final design and construction) of projects:
    • Finalize design and scope of work
    • Review design and submittal documentation
    • Commissioning of the installed measures
  • Other responsibilities include:
    • Making recommendations for improvements in standard approaches to ECM cost/savings calculations
    • Develop (and/or contribute to improvements of) company standard procedures, documents, and software
    • Supervision/training/mentoring of junior engineers
    • Staying up to date on advanced controls and innovative energy efficiency and sustainability technologies

Requirements

Candidates must reside in either the greater San Francisco Bay Area or Los Angeles area and have the legal right to work in the United States.

You should be self-directed, responsible, and committed to efficient delivery of well-documented projects. We need a problem solver who can ask good questions and collaborate effectively with teammates. You should have:

  • Enthusiasm for energy efficiency, buildings, and the energy transition
  • Eagerness to take ownership of the project development process, including working with customers to arrive at solutions to novel questions
  • Comfort interacting with client stakeholders at different levels of the organization
  • Interest in wearing multiple hats and working on a broad range of problems as a member of a small team in a fast-moving environment
  • High level of expertise with Excel and/or Google Sheets. Experience/expertise programming within Excel/Sheets and/or Python a plus.
  • Excellent writing and presentation skills

Required Experience/Background/Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in Engineering, Energy Management, or Building Sciences
    • Master’s degree and/or PE a plus
  • 10+ years total building industry experience with at least 5+ years of that experience directly involved in performing energy audits (ASHRAE Level 1, 2, & 3) in commercial and/or industrial buildings
    • Knowledge of ASHRAE energy audit standards is required
  • Industry experience in one or more of the following a plus:
    • Building energy modeling
    • Existing building commissioning (Retrocommissioning)
    • New construction commissioning
    • Commercial building HVAC systems design, construction, operation.
    • Building automation systems (BMS, lighting controls, etc.) design/construction
    • Commercial building lighting systems design, auditing or LED retrofit
  • Industry certification in energy auditing highly desired
    • BEAP (ASHRAE)
    • CEA (AEE)
  • This position is to service projects in major California metro areas, and frequent field work at customer sites should be expected.
