Job Overview

SCS Global Services (SCS) Mining Services programs measure environmental and social performance and recognize achievement in mine site best practices. Our small working group, supported by auditors, physical and social scientists, and engineers, shares the same vision: to leave all things better than we found them.

We are looking for an experienced, detail-oriented, and analytical Program Manager to oversee the client certification process. The Program Manager is key in maintaining technical standards and leading responsible sourcing due diligence from project inception to final delivery - planning and scheduling audits, preparing client-facing documentation, and managing budgets and profitability. This is a fast-paced environment with a wide range of tasks requiring strong organizational skills and an ability to meet tight deadlines while simultaneously maintaining prescribed standards in quality control.

The ideal candidate has mining and project management experience, can communicate complex technical information clearly, and is an accomplished professional interested in applied research and benchmarking for alignment with recognized industry sustainability standards.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Manages people and resources to deliver robust, third-party independent audits and due diligence assessments efficiently and profitably
  • Maintains work product and program quality control with applicable accreditations and approvals to meet client and scheme-owner expectations and timelines
  • Recruits, trains, and oversees contract auditors and administrative staff
  • Leads all phases of certification audits, including technical review, data analysis, and the preparation of findings
  • Approves final reports for client use and public distribution
  • Builds capacity for better mining practices through recommended corrective actions

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree that demonstrates knowledge of relevant subject matter (mining, geological engineering, energy, environmental resource management, etc.)
  • 6+ years of professional work experience in natural resource management such as exploration and development, mining operations, mineral processing, occupational safety and health, environmental and social monitoring and compliance, tailings and waste management, reclamation and closure (note: priority will be given to candidates with people, project, or program management accountabilities)
  • Ability to conduct independent research and qualitative/quantitative data analysis, and present findings in a written report
  • Strong leadership and communication skills to work with a wide range of stakeholders
  • Proficiency in English with work experience that involves professional written communication
  • Competency in MS Office and project management software (PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Outlook, Salesforce)
  • Must have received or be willing to receive the COVID-19 vaccination by the date of hire to be considered, unless precluded by local and national jurisdiction. Pursuant to local and national law--proof of vaccination is required. Medical and religious accommodations will also be considered.

Additional Preferred Skills

  • Advanced degree (i.e., M.Sc., Ph.D.) in a relevant field
  • Fluency (written and verbal) in Spanish, French, or Portuguese
  • Experience with auditing techniques and technologies (ISO 14001, 19011)
  • Familiarity with mining standards (i.e., the Initiative for Responsible Mining Assurance (IRMA), The Cyanide Code, the Global Industry Standard on Tailings Management (GISTM), CopperMark, OECD, Due Diligence Guidance for Responsible Supply Chains of Minerals from Conflict-Affected and High-Risk Areas, LBMA, IFC Performance Standards, Towards Sustainable Mining (TSM), Responsible Minerals Initiative (RMI), SA 8000, ASI, Fairtrade, World Gold Council, or the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights)

Physical Requirements

This is an office-based job. Sit 6+ hours per day. Keyboarding 6+ hours per day. Must be able to speak and listen in person and on the phone.

Pay Range:

$76k to $103k Annually
