Open Earth Foundation is a California-based research and deployment non-profit developing open innovative technology to increase planetary resilience and avoid a catastrophic climate crisis.
We are building open infrastructure for the Paris Agreement, energy finance, biodiversity tracking, and other critical problems.
We are a diverse international team, working remotely with a network of collaborators and partners globally, from the United Nations to startups.
We have funding and a team of experts focused on Earth systems and digital innovation.
Your mission, should you choose to accept it: As a product owner you will leverage your product development expertise and analytical skills to build open digital solutions to fight climate change and prevent biodiversity loss. You'll work with others at OEF and partner organizations to build new software or iterate on existing products. You'll collaborate with an engineering manager to strategize and implement how things get done; you'll work with a product designer to research and decide how solutions should behave and look; and you'll work with scientists and other subject matter experts to explore what needs to get done. The position is remote and international candidates are welcome, but prefer those willing to work with time zones in PST. We're working on the planet's problems and we need the planet's best people to fix them. The following requirements describe our ideal candidate. The ideal candidate: passionate about high impact climate solutions
- Experience developing intuitive and impactful digital products, with a heavy emphasis on turning complex processes into simple and enjoyable work flows
- Hands on experience in fields related to climate accounting, climate policy, biodiversity or data analytics and reporting.
- Experience working with digital solutions that incorporate elements of blockchain, IoT, AI or big data
- Committed to open source technology products and platforms, multi-stakeholder innovation and big-picture climate solutions
Responsibilities: understanding users, prioritizing features, continuous shipping
- Deep dives into user feedback and analyze quantitative data to identify pain points to address and essential features to develop
- Scope out detailed product requirements and align them with the organization’s and planet’s goals
- Prioritize new features to build based on value added and constraints of user personas, and technological capabilities
- Coordinate the agile team’s planning for work to ensure continuous and high quality shipping of new features and products, through Jira and other management tools
- Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to achieve product vision and problem-solve any obstacles that may arise
Interpersonal skills: A time-zone management master, clear communicator, creative and curious, attention to detail
- Excellent written and verbal skills in English (additional languages a plus)
- Detail oriented with ability to be creative, flexible and efficient
- Ability to thrive independently in a remote environment, but efficiently collaborate with international team members and partners at all levels
- Embraces new challenges, takes ownership and contributes to the team as a key player
Qualifications:
- Significant hands-on experience in product development, design, or research
- 2+ years of progressively responsible experience in agile technology development
- Startup, big tech and/or open source communities experience
- Experience in deeply analytical roles is highly valued
Compensation and benefits
- This position is full-time with compensation of 45,000 to 75,000 /year, dependent on experience and location
