Job Description

Sesame Solar is looking for highly motivated and exceptional Field Service Technician to help streamline our deployments and delight customers with our customer service for our Mobile Nanogrids that decarbonize Disaster Response and Off-grid power.   

You will work closely with Sesame Solar Customer Success, Logistics and Production Managers to ensure a seamless onboarding process for our customers and partners, and oustanding service/support for any needed repairs.

In the first few weeks you will:

  • Learn about Sesame Solar’s Mobile Nanogrids, technology, mission, history, and philosophy
  • Learn to operate, and troubleshoot Sesame Solar products and internal tools
  • Work directly on a Sesame Solar deployment to learn features, and functionality, as well as understand the challenges of remotely supporting our Solutions around the US and the Caribbean
  • Field incoming service calls as the first point of communication with Sesame’s customers and Resellers, prioritizing needs 
  • Help fabricate our Nanogrids so you understand how they are made and the technologies included

As you gain basic proficiency you will:

  • Provide remote and onsite customer support and equipment repairs
  • Act as a point of contact for customers, understanding customer needs, and resolving customer issues in a timely manner
  • Train customers on how to perform common repair work, complete required maintenance, and self-diagnose or resolve system issues
  • Complete trip reports and site visit summaries, get customer signoffs
  • Track hours via Sesame Solar systems to ensure accurate billable hours
  • Promplty report any  high-frequency service requests, performance concerns, or hw/sw failures
  • Maintain Sesame Solar service documentation (including augmented reality training and User Manuals in an internal and external knowledge base
  • Evaluate product concerns against specifications and warranty coverage
  • Other field service tasks as needed
  • Assist the fabrication teams in-between deployments

Requirements:

  • Minimum 3-5 years hands-on field service experience servicing heavy equipment at customer locations as well as remotely
  • A strong technical hardware or field engineer/technician background (practical experience preferred
  • Ability to travel on short notice to service customers at their locations
  • Comfortable working in the field at a customer site and in an office environment
  • Highly proficient with common field tools
  • Be resourceful - be known as a “can do” person
  • Be maginative and open-minded for problem solving
  • Be able to work well in a team or solo environment with multiple levels and skill sets within an organization
  • Experience with industrial controls (hydraulics, actuators, valves, sensors, electronic control systems)
  • Experience with electrical wiring service and mechanical systems
  • Be curious and have a desire to learn something new every week
  • Demonstrated ability to keep calm and work in difficult situations (heat, cold,  small spaces, tight deadlines, etc)
  • Etended hours required at times
  • Be skilled at using Microsoft 365
  • Demonstrate an outstanding customer service attitude 
  • Be self-organized with a willingness to exceed customer and company expectations
  • Keep receipts and records and submit expense reports in an accurate and timely manner
  • Have a valid drivers license and a clean driving record
  • Undergo a Background check
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States
  • Include Resume or summary work history required with your application

Preferred: 

  • Previous experience in a customer facing, or training role, preferably in a technical field
  • Hands-on AR/VR experience
  • Prior examples of automating or outsourcing work tasks
  • Prior experience using data to make fact-based decisions
  • Prior fabrication experience
  • Ability to tow a 20 foot trailer with a pickup truck,

Education and experience:

  • High School diploma or equivalent; Tech/Associates degree preferred
  • 3-5 years of experience performing Field Service Technician 
  • Minimum 3years of experience servicing, or knowledge of solar, batteries or related electronics

Working Conditions/Physical Demands:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, use hands and fingers, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk and hear.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 60 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus 

Working Location(s): 

  • Customer sites all over the US
  • Based iat our Jackson, MI factory

Travel Requirements: 

  • Up to 70%

Compensation Information: $50,000 - $60,000 per year depending on experience. Salary/No overtime. Potential for performance bonuses. No relocation package offered at this time
