About the Role:  

Here at Planet Labs, we launch spacecraft early and often. From Technology Demonstrations to operational constellations, we're designing, manufacturing and launching record-breaking numbers of spacecraft. Exceptional interns are needed for the design, simulation, and implementation of Space radiation and reliability solutions for satellites. We leverage the latest technologies and develop our own, while rapidly iterating our spacecraft design.  At Planet Labs, you will work with a small team of dedicated engineers responsible for the design of several platforms.

The qualification team is seeking a candidate with a Mechanical, Thermal and test oriented background to help drive the design of key spacecraft ground support equipment design as well as testing efforts. The ideal candidate will be a student with a passion for space and hands-on work. As a member of the Qualification team within Planet’s Space Systems division, you will be a key contributor to ground support equipment design and will work closely with senior engineers and our manufacturing teams.

This position is a part of our twelve week summer internship program that starts on Monday, June 12th 2023 and concludes on September 1st, 2023.

Impact You’ll Own:

  • Provide support to environmental test campaigns  
  • Provide design support to test fixtures and equipment for vibration, shock, and thermal vacuum testing
  • Document and present work to multi-disciplinary collaborators and leadership

What You Bring:

  • Experience using Solidworks CAD
  • Understanding of standard spacecraft subsystems and general design
  • Ability to document test results and create test reports
  • Experience working with lab equipment 
  • Hands-on experience

Compensation:

The US hourly rate range for this position at the commencement of employment is $35 - $40. The final salary range is determined by job related experience, skills and location.  The range displays our typical hiring range for new hire salaries in US locations only.  Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your preferred location during the hiring process.
