Job Description

About Nautilus

Nautilus is building artificial intelligence to advance the efficiency of ocean commerce. We deliver technology to help shipping companies minimize fuel consumption, maximize operational efficiency, and optimize fleet performance. By arming ship owners and operators with real-time predictive decision support, Nautilus is reducing greenhouse gas emissions and making global trade sustainable.

Ocean shipping consumes over $100 billion dollars of fuel every year, and up to 30% of it can be saved. For owner-operators, reliance on manually collected and analyzed data makes it difficult to optimize fleet performance in real-time. By providing a unified data platform that leverages machine learning, Nautilus helps its clients make better decisions to maximize the return on each ship and every voyage. For our clients, this means they drive closer collaboration, greater transparency, and stronger accountability across their global teams every day.

About you.

We are hiring for a Vessel Performance Analyst to be the first in our new performance team in our Indian office. This is a critical part of our continued success and rapid growth. The role will be working directly with the client success, product, and data science teams to help clients have a deeper understanding of their ship performance, as well as advancing the capabilities of our performance tools.

Nautilus has since its very inception been a high-frequency data first platform, preferring the data quantity and quality coming from sensors over the daily noon reports. You’ll be working alongside data science engineers with extensive experience building machine learning models for ship performance based on these different data sets, and will have the opportunity to incorporate new and innovative ideas to assess and improve this performance. You will also be discussing on a daily basis with forward-thinking clients the performance of their fleet and how they can improve it. It’s an opportunity to bring new methodologies into the industry and have a meaningful impact on emissions globally.

Outcomes for the Role.

  • Provide clients with monthly performance reports for all their vessels, indicating a performance status for each and suggested corrective actions
  • This will include provide Speed and Consumption, SFOC and other relevant dashboards to clients
  • Discuss with clients the content of these reports and the required actions
  • Lead initiatives to come up with new performance report types and present them to clients

Proficiencies.

  • Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field (eg. math, science, engineering, economics, etc.).
  • Shipping industry experience with strong preference for a background in a performance or technical management role.
  • Should have a broad understanding of hydrodynamic and physics principles that drive ship performance.
  • 2+ years working in data analysis, report building, data visualization or insights delivery.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong critical thinking and analytical skills with an ability to find drivers behind the data.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel and comparable analytical tools.
  • Ability to partner cross-functionally, across time zones, providing timely updates to internal  stakeholders.

Bonus.

  • Experience with Programming and Data Science tools (Python, Jupyter etc.)
  • Degree in Naval Architecture or Marine Engineering
  • Seagoing experience

Our core values.

Get ready to join a group of diverse, smart, talented, and driven individuals. We are looking for people who are motivated by environmentalism and a future where shipping is sustainable and safe. A team member joining Nautilus is...

  • We’re THOUGHTFUL, with a bias towards action.
  • We’re an INCLUSIVE crew, and we are not passengers along for the ride.
  • We’re DIRECT and we ask the tough questions.
  • We EMPATHIZE with humanity.
