Supported by leading investors such as Breakthrough Energy Ventures, ArcelorMittal, TPG Rise, MIT’s The Engine, and others, we share a common belief that low-cost, multi-day energy storage is the key to enable tomorrow’s zero carbon electric grid. Driven by our core values of humanity, excellence, and creativity, we are deeply motivated and inspired to create a better world. We need talented, hardworking individuals who share our goal of tackling the challenge of climate change. Do you want to work with us today to build a better tomorrow?

Role Description:

The Analytics team within the Software & Analytics group at Form Energy is focused on powering Form's commercial, technical, and strategic decisions with analytics insight. We are seeking to hire a Staff Data Scientist to build our understanding of operational and performance requirements for our technology and how it can maximize our value in the future electricity system. This is part of a broader effort to develop a data science center of excellence for the company.

In this role, you will work on battery operations in collaboration with various teams at Form Energy, including our Software, Market Fundamentals, Battery Product, Battery Engineering, and Product Management teams.

The Staff Data Scientist role is new, part of a growing Software & Analytics group, and can be based remotely. This is an exciting opportunity to help shape and be part of a quickly growing and fast-moving company with breakthrough technology and an incredible mission!

What You'll Do:

  • Using the vast dataset of battery operations under various scenarios run by the Analytics team, understand the range of operational requirements for our product along with the contributions of each of these operations to our battery value.

  • Working closely with Battery Products, Cell Development, Systems Engineering, Project Engineering, Software, and other teams at Form to extract and assess  performance data from operating assets

  • Help define and verify requirements of quality and reliability under various operational scenarios.

  • Inform system reliability modeling efforts by incorporating market knowledge and grid reliability needs.

  • Build ML models for real-time forecasts unique to our technology and inform the development of our dispatch advisor.

  • Interface with stakeholders across the various teams at Form to define analysis goals, execute and communicate results.

What You'll Bring:

  • Degree in Material Science, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Operations Research, or a related field. e.g., BS with 7+ years of industry experience, or MS/MSE with three plus years of industry experience, or a Ph.D with some industry experience

  • Experience working with large datasets, knowledge of tools such as Python, Snowflake, SQL, or similar programming and database tools to perform complex analysis and data visualizations.

  • Experience in analysis of large datasets, building machine learning models for time-series forecasting.

  • Experience in battery operations and trading, ideally at a technology company in the power sector.

  • Excellent communication, organizational, and collaboration skills with the ability to convey information and content easily and effectively to stakeholders and customers.

  • Passion for our mission, sustainability, and climate change

The California salary range for this role is $189,165 - $233,345. The range listed is what we reasonably expect to pay for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and may be modified in the future. Actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, depth of experience, certifications, and specific work location. This may be different in other locations due to differences in the cost of labor. #LI-DNI
