We’re making zero carbon happen

We’re OVO Group, a big family of companies united by a single vision: to get to zero carbon, fast.

We call this Plan Zero – and it shows how we’ll be fighting the climate crisis and transforming the way people use energy over the next decade. To do this, we need the sharpest minds. Are you up for the challenge?

Do great green things with OVO Energy

So much has changed since we launched in 2009.  Our goal remains the same though: make energy cheaper, greener, and simpler. Just as it was on day one.

Everyone belongs at OVO

Our aim is to build a diverse and inclusive movement: teams of brilliant people, with unique talents, skills, passions, and experiences.

We encourage everyone to join us, whatever your gender identity, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, age, life experience, or background. So please come as you are – we can’t wait to meet you.

Where in the world of OVO will I be working?

The OVO Group’s mission is to drive progress towards net zero carbon living. To reach zero, we need everyone to come together. Not as customers buying energy, but as members with a common goal.  OVO Metering is at the heart of bringing Britain’s energy system into the 21st Century. Field Operations is an integral part in creating a smart energy system which will mean that our energy networks are run in a completely new way.  You’ll be working within Service Delivery in this new highly visible position.

What will I be doing?

Reporting to the Senior Field Development & Engagement Manager you’ll work closely with our operational leaders to design and deliver skills development that will equip our Smart Energy Engineers and Operational Support teams to deliver against our Plan Zero objectives as we serve our customers in their homes.

Field Operations is responsible for delivering role specific development training beyond the remit of the central People Development and Learning team so as Development Manager you’ll be required to coordinate this activity across the team of ~850 field based and ~250 office/home based members of the Field ops team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Developing new role-specific, soft skill content across multiple platforms that will support delivery of Field Operations ambitious goals
  • Conduct training needs assessments across multiple areas within Field Operations to ensure we create content designed to maximise the potential of our people
  • Develop detailed training and development proposals and plans to accelerate growth and development opportunities across Field Operations
  • Maintain a holistic training calendar to provide regular forecasts of training and development requirements and opportunities
  • Report on training activities and analyse data in order to drive results and measure learning effectiveness
  • Prepare and deliver reviews of training to assure senior management of the value, quality and appropriateness of training investment
  • Lead a small team of Training and Development Specialists
  • Leading learning projects
  • Work closely with the central OVO L&D team ensuring cohesion across the two  teams
  • Scope our new technology driven training solutions designed to enhance our training experience and help us build the best place to work

Is this the job for me?

Skills and experience:

  • Experience leading training teams (or similar experience) to implement world-class technical training and learning programmes
  • Experience implementing and supporting training for field-based engineering teams
  • Experience and familiarity with different technologies to deliver training and learning, including virtual delivery technologies.
  • Proven ability to multitask and prioritise critical tasks with a high attention to detail
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills and ability to succinctly summarise key findings
  • Experience of working in a fast paced environment where prioritisation is required
  • People leadership experience, with a sound understanding of what it takes to inspire and motivate people to deliver their best performance in work.

Ideally you will have…

  • Experience with optimising an externally led training delivery operation to deliver quantifiable cash flow, margin and productivity improvement benefits.
  • Ability to work independently and be self-motivated in a fast-paced, often ambiguous and rapidly changing environment
