Engineering Project Manager - High Voltage

Zinc8 Energy Solutions is developing a range of energy storage products based on a novel zinc-air flow battery technology. An expanding market for these products exists in utility, commercial, industrial, microgrid and similar applications. With powerful backing and a committed engineering nucleus, Zinc8 is expanding its product development team to capitalize on this rare opportunity.

Position Overview

Reporting to the Head of Product, the Engineering Project Manager -High Voltage, will play an integral role in the execution, strategic direction, development, scale-up, and future growth of the Company’s new product line. The candidate will have exceptional analytical skills, along with strong leadership skills to help lead the company through full commercialization at scale.

The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of commercializing prototype to build technology at scale in a start-up, fast-paced setting. The Engineering Project Manager -High Voltage will be responsible for establishing engineering and operational strategies, developing action plans, and aligning appropriate monetary resources. The Engineering Project Manager -High Voltage will help provide overall strategic and operational direction to the company's engineering/technological planning and development function.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee the execution of design strategy for the technology while driving the successful commercialization of large-scale products based on the company's core engineering design.
• Help lead the build-out of the engineering organization, to support the next stages in the Company’s development and scale-up of its engineering design
• Support in designing and scaling up production processes from pilot to commercial scale for the new product.
• Oversee the engineering product development lifecycle.
• Help determine and translate business strategy into tangible goals for product development and technology operations.
• Provide technical expertise to the existing engineering organization.
• Collaborate with CTO, product team and various stakeholders to help guide critical decision-makings including but not limited to technical approaches, cost, and schedule performance.
• Work closely with the product management team to provide the best large-scale product solution to the market.
• Support efforts in proposal development, project scoping as well as with client relationship development.
• Track the progress of deliverables, client reviews, technical input, and comment resolution.
• Manage the designing of engineering parts, tools, and other equipment and industrial processes.
• Support in planning and managing the engineering budget.
• Coordinate with contractors to achieve engineering and product objectives.
• Help oversee the assessment of government-funded opportunities.
• Develop and implement KPIs and ensure that the team meets expectations.
• Recruit, retain, and build effective teams.
• Other duties as assigned.

Key Qualifications

• Masters or PhD level Engineering degree is strongly preferred.
• 10+ years’ experience in advanced engineering development
• Minimum 5+ years of experience in fluid mechanics is required.
• Experience in Power Systems (e.g., power supplies, motors, inverters, switch gear, etc.) is required.
• Experience in working with electrochemical systems would be a huge plus.
• Proven leadership skills in product design and product development.
• Expertise in commercializing engineering designs from pilot through full-scale highly desired
• Experience with large-scale energy storage project and product development is strongly preferred.
• Experience in building a structured, accountable, and efficient engineering function.
• Strong project management, organizational, and interpersonal communication skills
• Proven track record of hiring and managing a team within a start-up environment.
• Experience and desire in working in a start-up environment.
