Director of Manufacturing - based in New York

Zinc8 Energy Solutions is developing a range of energy storage products based on a novel zinc-air flow battery technology. A substantial market for these products exists in utility, commercial, industrial, remote power generation and similar applications. With powerful backing and a committed nucleus Zinc8 is expanding its product development team to capitalize on this rare opportunity.

Overview 

We are looking for a Director of Manufacturing Operations with a strong manufacturing background to oversee the development of our manufacturing function. The candidate will report directly to the CEO.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Lead the development of Zinc8’s Manufacturing function
• Develop and propose strategic manufacturing plan: New York expansion
• Develop cost to produce forecast
• Contribute to product design and specification reviews and conduct DFM and PFMEA studies
• Manage the build of prototype units
• Estimate production times, staffing requirements and related costs to provide information for management decisions
• Identify, and define requirements for manufacturing equipment, tools and fixtures, with a focus on volume production and process automation
• Direct and supervise activities of the production team to achieve performance objectives
• Apply necessary controls to drive continuous improvement activities and to estimate future manufacturing requirements
• Ensure H&S requirement s are maintained and followed by production team
• Plan and manage layout of production facility and support facility upgrades as needed
• Work with engineering staff in the facility to optimize working conditions, preventative maintenance actions and overall efficiency
• Identify and report opportunities for quality and yield improvement
• Develop relationship with key suppliers to negotiate price and delivery improvements
• Identify opportunities to work with contract manufacturers
• Lead management of parts inventory for both manufacturing and engineering functions
• Build quality management capabilities
• Manage regulatory audits of production equipment.
• Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing, Industrial, or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
• 5+ years’ experience in a similar role in a high-tech manufacturing environment. Leading manufacturing and assembly of mechanical and electrical products in prototype, pre-production and production phases
• Demonstrated experience with new product introduction and transition to volume manufacturing
• Demonstrated implementation of process changes that have resulted in improvements of production quality, production efficiency and in product cost reduction
• Demonstrated leadership and vision in managing staff groups and major projects or initiatives.
• Demonstrated experience in selecting and managing external suppliers and contract manufacturers
• Demonstrated experience managing a team of engineers and technicians
• Budget development and oversight experience
• Must be fluent in English with excellent communication skills.

Desirable Qualifications:

• Experience with electro-chemical products and processes and managing chemicals production and handling
• Experience in manufacturing of configurable containerized electromechanical systems
• Familiarity with purchasing and ERP/MRP systems
