Carbon Management/Industrial Decarbonization Intern


Boundary Stone Partners (BSP) is seeking a highly motivated Carbon Management/Industrial Decarbonization Intern to join our fast-growing team of transportation, climate, clean energy, and space experts in Washington, D.C. for the Summer. This internship is hybrid, with the expectation of being in the DC office approximately three days a week. Compensation will be $20/hour, along with transit benefits.

What you can expect to learn this summer:


The Carbon Management/Industrial Decarbonization Intern will support BSP’s team in research, client support, and government affairs engagement with leading companies, non-profits, trade associations, and financial institutions across relevant sectors. The intern will work closely with BSP staff to develop creative policy solutions and identify business opportunities to accelerate the deep decarbonization of industry. Core responsibilities include:


  • Help draft policy and informational memos for clients
  • Write preparatory memos for meetings
  • Conduct legislative and policy research around carbon dioxide removal (CDR), clean hydrogen, and industrial decarbonization (clean steel, clean cement, etc.) issues 
  • Attend, track, and report back on industry and think tank events, legislative hearings, and agency briefings 
  • Develop and maintain a list of companies working in the industrial decarbonization and CDR space and follow key updates such as investments, strategic partnerships, and other public announcements
  • Identify and monitor key policy developments in foreign markets, especially those with trade implications or impact on U.S. industrial competitiveness
  • Collaborate with Boundary Stone staff to identify a particular policy priority relating to the above topic areas and prepare an in-depth research paper that can be distributed across practice groups and to clients


About you

  • Enrolled in or recent graduate of an undergraduate or graduate degree program in public policy, climate/environmental science, engineering or related field
  • Ability to work in the Washington, D.C. office a minimum of 20 hours per week, but up to 40 hours per week
  • Excellent research and writing skills
  • Strong communication abilities
  • Experience with Google platforms
  • Time management and critical thinking skills
  • Interest/exposure to international trends in policy and markets around decarbonization, carbon markets, and carbon management
  • Interest in clean energy / climate change / industrial decarbonization
  • Interest in public policy and legislation
