About us

Clairity Technology was founded to develop technology and solutions to combat climate change. We create scalable and low-cost technology and systems for direct air capture of carbon dioxide.

Climate change is one of the most pressing problems of our time. Humans have emitted trillions of tons of CO2 into the atmosphere since the industrial revolution, and even with rapid decarbonization, billions of tons of CO2 will remain in the atmosphere for centuries. Scientists agree that scalable technology for efficient and low-cost removal and durable sequestration of CO2 is critical to mitigate the worst effects of climate change. Carbon dioxide removal (CDR) is a suite of approaches and novel technologies to accomplish this.

Job description

We are hiring a mechanical engineer who will report directly to the CEO. You will be responsible for design, development, and fabrication of direct air capture systems, associated test systems, machining, tooling, and more. You will perform fluid systems design, including component  selection and integration, design of thermal systems, and system optimization. This role will require design, development, testing, and incorporation of data to iterate on future design changes.

You will oversee all aspects of your projects, including initial requirements gathering, feasibility studies, full system design, purchasing and procurement, finances, scheduling, manufacturing, contractor management, installation, and activation.

Clairity is an early-stage company and all team members will have the opportunity to shape the direction and decisions of the company. You will be able to build from dirt patch up to a completed system and will have an outsized impact on the company’s success. The ideal candidate will thrive with high degrees of autonomy and is self-driven to complete tasks.

Technical problems we are working on:
  • High-efficiency, low-cost heat transfer systems for targeted heating and cooling of specialized materials.

  • Parameterized experimental design and test system design for advanced chemical sorbent characterization and materials development.

  • Design of a high-reliability, low-pressure, variable-purity gas capture system that works under a wide range of operating conditions.

  • Experimental design for quantification of CO2 mineralization and sequestration under elevated pressures and temperatures.

Responsibilities:
  • Design and develop test systems for direct air capture of carbon dioxide.

  • Fluid system design, including creating P&IDs, schematics, operating and test plans.

  • Thermal systems design, including heat exchanger design, and design of high temperature fluid and mechanical components.

  • Component and system design in CAD.

  • Execution of tests and data collection for materials and systems characterization.

  • Data analysis and reporting.

  • Interface with vendors and external parties as necessary for project completion.

Requirements

Basic qualifications:
  • Familiarity with design of fluid and thermal systems, including an understanding of heat and mass transfer, piping systems design and safety.

  • Hands-on experience with thermo-fluid components, including valves, pumps, heat exchangers, instrumentation, electromechanical components and more.

  • Experience with computer aided design (CAD) such as Solidworks, NX, AutoCAD, or similar CAD programs.

  • Hands on project experience designing and building products.

  • Must have strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment.

  • Ability to work in dynamic environments to execute real-time tasks in tight operation windows.

  • Degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering, or related technical discipline.

Preferred and experience:
  • Experience working on technically complex systems with experience from comparable industries like aerospace, automotive, or chemical engineering.

  • Experience designing for manufacturing / designing for assembly.

  • Comfortable working on a small team and taking ownership of all phases of a project lifecycle.

  • Requirements gathering and documentation for technically complex projects.

Inclusion & belonging

To develop technology and build products that solve planetary problems, we need to build a team with many different perspectives and experiences. We are an equal opportunity employer who celebrates, supports, and thrives on diversity, and that's why we're committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees.

We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status.
