Job Description

Role Overview

Cambium Carbon uses technology to build local, regenerative supply chains. What does that mean? It means we make it easy for commercial buyers to source local materials (like this), and we’re hiring for a Director of Marketing. We are looking for someone who can see the forest for the trees and can also get into the woods (ie. strategist AND executor) to do to the lumber & building material space what ugly produce has done to food waste or online thrifting has done to second hand clothing. This is a high growth opportunity to build a brand around a product that reduces waste, creates local jobs, and plants trees–all at once. If you want to work with a passionate & fun team while radically changing how companies and people view the materials they consume, see the full job description and apply here

Cambium Carbon is a Public Benefit Corporation (PBC) backed by former Mayor of Washington, DC, Adrian Fenty (MaC Capital), former CEO of AOL, Steve Case (Revolution’s Rise of the Rest), Co-founder of Alibaba, Joe Tsai, and others!

About Us

At Cambium Carbon, we use technology to build local regenerative wood supply chains. We are on a mission to bring manufacturing back to our cities so that we can dramatically reduce climate impacts and create new green-jobs.

How do we do it? We connect local producers to technology that streamlines their business through inventory, order, chain of custody, and point-of-sale management, and then we help large wood buyers seamlessly aggregate sustainable products from our local networks. We’re helping save the 36 million trees that fall in US cities each year from landfill, connecting them to local sawyers & processors who can turn that into value-added products. The result is a hyper-local supply chain that reduces greenhouse gas emissions and reinvests in new tree planting and maintenance.

We plan to scale into additional materials and become the leading circular economy platform. Headquartered in Baltimore with remote team members across the country, we’re committed to people-first climate solutions, and we know that the only way we succeed is by honoring the diversity, growth, and ambition of our climate-super team and our communities!

What You’ll Do

Overall, this role is 30% strategy and 70% tactical execution and implementation. This position requires making data driven recommendations to enable impactful messaging and growth, as well as content creation. We’re looking for someone self-directed who can set the course and put in the legwork to get our marketing efforts off the ground. As we grow, we expect this role to begin building out a broader marketing team within 8-12 months–including contractors and full time employees as needed.

Product Marketing Strategy & Execution (50%)

  • Lead brand positioning and messaging across business units and target audiences
  • Develop and execute the Go to Market strategy for Carbon Smart Wood™ and manage the relationship with product and sales teams
  • Lead partnership marketing opportunities (cross promotion, collaborations…etc)
  • Establish Carbon Smart Wood™ as a hyper-sustainable material brand
  • Implement near term content generation across relevant channels (with help from your team)

Growth Marketing (30%)

  • Decide and execute on best distribution channels to target to achieve our goals
  • Drive sales enablement through demand gen and inbound leads
  • Turn Cambium Carbon fans into fanatics to drive product adoption
  • Develop and track key ROI and conversion metrics to show the effectiveness campaigns, working closely with our Sales and Product team

Marketing Management & Ops (20%)

  • Build, repeatable and scalable processes within the marketing team and with other teams
  • As you begin establishing the above strategy, map out the growth of the marketing team (next hires, contractors…etc)
  • Expand upon Cambium Carbon’s culture and core values to set the stage for a growing marketing team

Desired Qualifications

  • You have 3-5+ years experience in marketing specifically around product and growth (brand positioning, messaging, sales enablement, content creation…etc)
  • You’ve contributed to strategy building and owned the execution of marketing plans
  • You like to chart your course and don’t wait for someone to give you a to-do list!
  • You have an innate ability to jump in, figure it out, anticipate, plan and execute.
  • You are a strong verbal and written communicator; you can synthesize the need to know from a sea of information.
  • You appreciate the power of an amazing story and collective impact across communities
  • You have seen brand building grow and scale as a company grows.
  • Marketing is about emotion. It’s about making people truly feel and understand what you’re doing and how they can get involved. In our case, it turns everyday wood buyers into climate change advocates.
  • We believe you don’t need a degree to connect with people and excite them. You need to be creative, audacious, strategic, thoughtful, and a little bit crazy.
Some of our teammates never went to college, some did, some never worked in wood, some did, but they all showed up and put their heart into their work.
