Carbon Mapper is a non-profit organization with a public-good mission to detect, pinpoint, quantify and track 80% of the world’s methane and carbon dioxide (CO2) point source emissions to help accelerate climate mitigation efforts using satellite and airborne remote sensing technology. Job Description:

Carbon Mapper is seeking an experienced DevOps engineer with strong cloud infrastructure experience to support implementation of our Data Platform using the cloud native best practices. This engineer will work with our Data Platform team to deliver CI/CD pipelines, test automation, observability and monitoring for the Data Platform cloud services. The ideal candidate would have experience using infrastructure-as-code within the AWS, GitHub, and Linux environment.

Required Skills: 

  • 5+ years working with Cloud Technologies, 3+ years of experience working in software development
  • Working experience with serverless technologies in AWS
  • Working experience with incident response and on-call rotation
  • Working experience of cloud architecture patterns and tradeoffs
  • Working experience with Infrastructure as Code
  • Experience with build and deployment automation, preferably GitHub Actions
  • Experience with infrastructure monitoring, preferably AWS CloudWatch and X-Ray
  • Experience with Python, JavaScript, Bash
  • Hands-on Linux server administration
  • Understanding of network protocols, security and performance optimization (CDNs, firewalls, load balancing)
  • Strong writing and documentation skills

Desired Skills: 

  • Geospatial data experience
  • Familiarity with satellite or airborne remote sensing data
  • Proactive problem-solving  
  • A passion for climate change action
